Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Gps problem

AT&T, upgraded to Lollipop yesterday and cleared cache partition, but the problems continue. During my 20-minute commute, I can pretty much depend on the GPS to lose location at least once ("sticks" in place for 10 seconds or so, completely loses GPS lock for 10-20 seconds or so, then pops back into place working fine).

I MAY have found a solution (possibly!) to the GPSissue on my AT&T Note 4. I went into Settings / Connections / More Networks / Mobile Networks / Mobile Data and un-checked "Enhanced 4G LTE Services". The GPS has still "lagged behind me" from time to time, but I haven't had it fail since.

However, it's been less than a day, so I can't be certain.

This is my first Samsung phone ( coming from HTC ). I may have to exchange this or something. Don't know if I can go to a "normal" sized phone though. They feel so tiny..haha

My phone had this same gps issue. I had to take it apart and bend a contact up that wasn't making good, solid connection. It fixed the problem, but I voided the warranty in the process so my method is not for everyone.

Can you provide some more detail? Any information about where this contact is? How did you find this out? My Note 4 has gone from my favorite phone of all time to my most hated phone because I need the GPS every day (I travel for work).

Bump. I'd like to know too. If it's an easy fix I'd be willing to try it.

They had me do this and it seems to have worked. Granted I only tried it for 20 minutes down valleys and back roads, but fifteen minutes before I was on a toll road with visibility for miles and the signal was dropping twice a minute.

Even with that setting, it started degrading again and finally reached the point where it was as bad as ever. I factory-reset my phone (twice, just for the grins) yesterday and the GPS still blew chunks last night, but worked without a hitch this morning. Guess I'll find out this evening.

I went ahead and turned the LTE enhanced stuff off since I don't think AT&T supports any of it anyway.

OK, so, my situation seems to be better. So far, at least.

AT&T Note 4. No SD card. The SIM that AT&T sent with it. Slim plastic case.

GPS issues since day one on KitKat. Stock settings, GPS would "stop" in one place for 10-15 seconds, then go to "signal lost" with zero satellites in sight for 10-15 seconds, then pop back into place. This would happen once every 10 minutes or so.

Turning off "Enhanced LTE", GPS would "stop" for 10-15 seconds then either "run to catch up" or pop back into place.

Lollipop upgrade seemed to have little to no effect. Multiple erases of cache partition, pulling battery and SIM for a half hour, and even downloading a GPS toolkit that cleared the AGPS data cache, little to no effect.

Two factory resets (because if I'm going to go through the pain twice is nice), the GPS sucked the evening of the day I did it and..

..has not had a problem since.

Admittedly, that's a sum total of about an hour and a half using it, but in my case (knock on wood) a factory reset in Lollipop plus giving the GPS a little time to "figure things out" ??? seems to have cleared up the problem.

I hate that I cant use any gps tracking apps to track my walks or runs with the dogs. I dont use an armband (might have to try it out, although in my neighborhood not too sure id like to show it off), so when its in my pocket it doesnt get gps signal at all so half my trips arent even accurate. Never had this issue with my Note3 ir SGS3. Its got pretty poor gps even when driving using Maps. (Its directly under the windshield on a mount and cant track me well)

I'd like more details on this as well

I love this damned phone so much and 95% of the time I never use GPS so it's not a major issue for me.... HOWEVER for the times when navigation is critical like on vacation in unfamiliar territory the device fails me consistently which makes me want to throw it out of the car window...

I found my compass needed calibration which I did. It improved speed of acquiring satellites but accuracy and dropouts are still an issue. About to return home from vacation and won't need navigation for months but I intend to buy a Bluetooth GPS receiver for the phone to serve my needs during travel in the future. I'm sure placing a higher accuracy GPS receiver with GLONASS support will do much better than the compact receiver in this phone. Should help battery life while navigating too... Its just another device to charge and carry though, which sucks.

I used my GPS today, and it worked perfectly. The sky was even very overcast, although that is not supposed to make a difference anyway I don't think... I do have it set to high accuracy. I do not see a trend, either. I had a note 3 that I took on many long road trips, and it worked just fine and seems to work just the same as my Note 4. So far so good!

Mine will still occasionally glitch. I have found that I can "speed up" the problem by using the quick settings pull down to turn location services off and back on quickly, but it isn't happening nearly as often after the factory reset.

Several have suggested it may be the SD Card causing the issue. Well, last week I got a message that my Samsung brand SD Card was corrupted and suggested a format. I don't know if that brilliant advice was from Samsung or Android but have they ever heard of chkdisk /f ??? That recovered all but 7 of my 300+ videos and pics.

Anywho... I have been driving to/from work with no SD Card in my phone and the GPS is no better/worse. With this problem being spread across multiple carriers and versions of Android / ROMs, it's gotta be a hardware issue.

Has anyone else who is experiencing GPS problems on the Note 4 rooted their phone? If so, I'm curious what your original gps.conf file looks like. I have been learning quite a bit about GPS in android and I'm seeing a dramatic improvement in the performance of my GPS by modifying the gps.conf file. If you have root access could you post your gps.conf and let me know which carrier you're using. Thanks

My Note 4 loses gps signal all the time. I miss exits all the time because it. Im an Uber driver in the DC metro area and this is a problem. Constantly has to load and takes minutes for it to find me again. The lollipop update has made it worse i feel.

Same problem but got it fixed by getting a new Sim card. I have the tmobile note 4

had note 4 for 3 weeks and this 1st time using GPS for Navigation. Having same problem as everyone else. Here the strange part. My wife has LG G2 and it was doing the same thing. The only thing the 2 phones have in common is lollipop.

I even done a factory Reset and still have the problem. However there is an app that seems to help. It is called GPS status. It really helped Google maps to keep a connection.

I had talked to tech support. They suggested running Verizon navigator, if it worked then google and lollipop have an issue. They also recommended running google maps while in safe mode. If it worked then there would be a conflict with another APP.

have not tried this yet.I believe this probably a software problem with lollipop. Since my phone is 3 weeks old and my wife's phone is a year and ahalf old and they suddenly developed the same problem after lollipop, but the app I mentioned did help,

I may have solved the problem. The case I was using has a metal band around the edge and it was causing problems with the GPS signal.
