Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 MULTIWINDOW / SIDE BAR DISAPPEARED AFTER UPDATE - PLEASE HELP!!

I bought one and updated right through each update since it was released with no problems. Worth it to double check that the multi-window is turned on if you're having problems before taking more drastic steps. Probably something easy to forget to check.

Yes I think that everyone has done that. Most just cant turn on/off, as they are "greyed out". I am just going to wait until the next update and hope they fix it. Anyone know how long usually between updates???

Will a factory reset get rid of my books that I have downloaded? I have some from Google play as well as kindle.

Interesting, and I certainly didn't mean to patronize or anything like that -- I know that I, at least, would overlook something like that. As far as I know, Samsung is pretty tight-lipped about updates. This is my first device from them, but they tend to have a reputation for being less-than-quick with updates but also not abandoning devices entirely in that regard. I'm going forward with the assumption that it won't receive any more updates, but it probably will -- who knows when that will be though, since their newest devices just recently got to 4.3 and they are probably focused on getting them to 4.4 right now.

You will have to re-download them, but if they are purchased through the Play Store and Kindle Store you will still own them, meaning you won't have to re-purchase.

Does anyone know if it will keep my photos and if the apps will stay in the same spots? Probably not resseting but might if these answers turn out to be what I want?

Also, does anyone have a clue what PopupuiReceiver is? It just appeared in my app manager widget and is greyed out meaning I cant close/end it.

This surprised me as well but I think its really the lack of instruction what to do next after the long road to the 4.2.2. update. Needless to say not all updates are made equal. So back-up everything before using the latest update. After running to trouble with this update I went on factory reset (power+volume hold button+erase all user data+reboot) check the software update at settings and I have a working 4.2.2 with multiwindows already ready to be enabled. Take note it did not revert to the older f/w version.

I had the exact same problem and did a reset as explained here. I had the multi-screen button greyed out, so I could not just switch it off and on again.
The reset worked, and I still have Android 2.2. There were some upgrades, not sure if the system was one of them, but all is good now.

Regards.
David.

I made a lifestyle choice to switch to android and Samsung for a note 2. Big mistake. This is case in point. Nail on the head is that this feature (multiwindow) is one of the usps for the device.

Will not buy Samsung again. So unprofessional.

Multi window is what samsung advertise and part of galaxy note. We should not go backward to earlier version firmware. Samsung should fix it on jell bean 4.2.2. I'm disappointed of samsung service.
The reset doesn't take you back to the previous version, it simply starts you from scratch with the new release. You will have to rebuild your home screens but if you are backed up with Google your apps should reload. Its a pain in the ****, but it was the only recourse I found, and believe me, I searched before starting over again.

Edit: sorry, I relied to an old post, but the answer still applies. If anyone tunes in with a recent upgrade this may still be a problem.

Thanks for keeping this thread going. I imagine there are others like me who just bought the Note 8 on sale only to find that the multi-window is malfunctioning as y'all have described. Mine is "grayed-out" too. At least I don't have much to lose, doing a factory reset, since I've only had the device for a week......

C'mon, Sansung, get this bug fixed!

Hi,
Just to let you guys know, I also got an email from Samsung support telling me to do the factory reset. I did it. It took a few minutes; and then the tablet automatically started uploading the apps that I have previously downloaded, hence I didn't have to look for each and download separately. The only thing is, make sure you backup your photos, music, downloaded files and notes, if you have, before doing this reset, since they'll be gone.
It's all back to normal now, I have my multiwindow feature and side bar back. I hope this doesn't happen again!

Ok, sounds like that worked. I will probably do the same, but I have one question: For games on your tablet, do you get back all of the data inside them. For instance, what level you are, group you are in, resources you have, etc. I am fine with my photos going away, but will your music and playlists remain the same? THANK YOU

One more thing: I got my Note 8 three months ago and there has only been one update. Does anyone know generally how long there is between updates? Might wait and see if it gets fixed. Thanks again

After upgrade mine was the same. (Note 3) but after reading this my side bar is back. Holding 'back' for 3 seconds stopped working after upgrade. But switched 'multi window' back on and Bobs your Auntie ...there it is. Even joined this forum to say thanks..... thanks 😊😊😊

do i need to backup my s notes too before doing the factory data reset? if im not mistaken, s note is the samsung apps, so thats men i cant backup my s notes as it is...i need to convert it t pdf....am i right?

I did the factory reset, and the mutiwindow function worked... but now my screen is not as crisply clear and with as vibrant colors as before the reset. Sadness.

My galaxy note 8.0 gt-5110 after an update from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 , most of the time i cant operate it except with the aid of styl pen wherever i try to use hand to operate it wont work except with use of pen. I did a factory reset the problem resurfaced.

Selecting the multi-window option from the drop down menu worked for me. (Drag down from top right and choose multi-window option.)

To see sidebar or remove it from view, try going to home page and hold down back button (bottom right). Tab should reappear/disappear from view.
