Hello,
I am looking to switch to the Note 9 from iPhone. I wanted to if the Note 9 had a visual voicemail in the stock Phone app like the iPhone does. That has been the most useful feature of the iPhone for me.
Thank you for the help.

Hi, definitely nice pick on the note 9 .
I'm on T-Mobile it has the visual voicemail mail but not the unlocked version but I believe u can download your carrier visual voicemail and work.

I see. I am looking to buy the Note 9 unlocked.
Unfortunately the ratings on the Play Store for AT&T visual voicemail aren’t looking so good. I was hoping Samsung might have put it in to their Android system or at least implement it in the new One UI.

I had it with Verizon and I have it with AT&T, both with locked phones and I find them similar and both fine. I don't know why the ratings would be bad on PlayStore - not sure what the heck people are looking for?

I just looked it up on play store , he's right rating not great . But if you had it on yours and working I'll take your word over the rating.

I use AT&T Visual voicemail and it works great. I have had no issues. I have an AT&T locked device.

I don't know if it is compatible with an unlocked device.

I would verify that not only vvm but also Wi-Fi calling will work buying an unlocked phone. There are a number of threads on this board from disgruntled unlocked phone buyers who miss out on a few of the nicer carrier features.

I have AT&T Note and WiFi Calling works but not on my unlocked S9+ with same SIM.

I keep my iPhone X around (also AT&T) jic I want those features. And backup.

You can also use Google Voice to get visual voicemail with your carrier. That works very well.

I read that you could do that. But don’t you have to port your number to Google Voice?

You get a Google phone number at setup, but it's basically transparent. Folks use your service provider number to contact you.
You can use the Google provided number if you wish to.

No, you do not have to port. You would only do that to change carriers. They will give you a new phone number. There are many options and settings which you can use to customize it. You can forward calls to it. It can forward to another number. Read the Google info sheet when picking out your new number.

The at&t visual voicemail app on my note 9 is not the same as the one in the app store. The one on my phone is a built-in app and works very well. I haven't experienced any problems with it.

Maybe that's why so many complaints on Play Store then... that comment had me wondering. I've been using AT&T through several Notes and love it!

On Play Store, the AT&T App that's rated 2.7, that's icon looks like Visual voice mail says "AT&T Voicemail Viewer" and the first line of the description states "View and listen to your AT&T landline voicemail on your smartphone" - I don't consider that Visual Voicemail if that's the one people are rating!
