Android Central Question

We have an old samsung galaxy s smartphone we no longer use. We want to use it as a security camera by using a program called alfred from the ios and play store. We like to use the iphone as the main phone and this galaxy s as the camera.

The thing is this phone is someone else in our family and it does show the gmail connected to it. But i want to put a new gmail account and log in with that since to get alfred to work, you need to login to your gmail account in both the iphone and this phone to set up the camera. However when i go to play store, i get message Cannot connect or communicate google servers. I also can't seem to erase this gmail account. So i then went to sign in gmail account i settings... the gmail account i want to use to sign in to this and the iphone for alfred. But i get the same message on this phone. So basically i cannot log into gmail account and cannot download alfred on this phone. Also the gmail account connected to this i dont even think its even connected.

Can someone tell me how to fix this issue? Would a factory restore clear all this? However, i wouldnt want to erase everything on this phone and just want to use it as is while signing into a gmail account. But that does not work.

Welcome to Android Central! What OS version is it on? Google has probably dropped support for it officially, which means it's probably stuck on an old Play Store and Play Services version, so you may not be able to install anything successfully from the Play Store.

Have you already gone to Settings>Accounts, selected the existing Google account, and then removed it there? Then do a factory reset and try logging in with your Google account.

Try adding the new Google account first. Once that's been successfully added, remove the old account.

But, as B. Diddy said, you probably won't be able to run the app on the phone - the phone is running Android 2.3, and can't be updated any further than that. There are "wifi camera" apps that might still work in it, though. Look at this Play page - some of those apps may still work in Gingerbread.
