Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini Won't Turn On

Welcome to the forums!
but the computer said update phone so we clicked on that
That's unusual - were you running the Kies software at the time?
than he formatted the phone
Um, do you mean he did a Factory Reset? If not, how did he 'format' the phone?
Did he format the SD card somehow?
It switched off and turned on by itself and it does not go further......it just stays by the place where it writes samsung s3 mini GT i8200
The safest bet would be to reload the stock firmware and leave well enough alone. You can find the firmware here - mouse-over the region codes to find your country/carrier and download the latest. You'll need a tool called Odin (just Google it; get v3.07; find a source on XDA), and you can find instructions here.

Can you provide a link to the root instructions that you were following?

thank you... I did wonder why the flippin' thing would zone out every time I used it whilst also having the thing on charge.. I'm prone to using my phone whilst it's charging all the time. Thank you. Invaluable advice

I had the same problem My phone was 3/4 charged. I could not turn it off even. just the red indicator was on. I tried different plug ins in my apt. This has happened twice. Took it to Fido where his charger worked. This time however I thought of something else. I believe the problem is contacts. So I took a wee drop of Dielectric tune -up grease and put on the plug in area. Plugged it in. Held the on /off button and it works fine now. I got a hint from one of the other posts that it could be not making contact. You can possibly use mineral oil, or maybe even Canola oil, who knows for sure about these things

The battery might be almost dead. My S3 mini suddenly stopped charging and when I plugged it in to charge it would vibrate as if it was registering I had just plugged it in, but it wouldn't charge. Eventually the battery completely died over a couple of days and it wouldn't switch on.
Today I took it back to the store I bought it from (it was still under warranty) and explained the problem to a member of staff. He told me the battery might be so dead it wouldn't even charge! Sounds unbelievable, right? He took the battery out of the phone and charged it in a machine they keep in the store (02 store) which apparently can charge a cell phone battery in 8 mins! He said he thought that it just needed a "jump start" as it had reached a point where it was so dead it wouldn't charge normally. He charged it in the store to about 25% for me and I left it to charge for a few hours when I got home (as it was now charging) and so far so good! Problem (hopefully) solved in 30mins! I use a lot of Samsung tablets at work and a few weeks ago I sent a tablet to Samsung for repair as it wouldn't switch on or charge and they said the same thing - that the battery was at a point where it needed a "jump start" and then to be charged for a few hours.
If the battery won't charge at all, either try a new battery (eBay or Amazon are good places to look for cheap batteries. Make sure to get a genuine Samsung with NFC capability. The NFC receiver is in the battery!) or take it in to the store where you bought it, or your carrier's store (02, Vodafone, etc) and explain the problem and see if they can help.
Hope this helps guys!
**UPDATE**
So the problem seemed to be fixed and the battery charged like normal a couple of times, but after 5 days the battery is refusing to charge again and is slowly dying... I've plugged it in to a charger (genuine one that came with the phone) and it says "charging" on the screen so it's registering that it's plugged in, but the battery is losing charge. I've bought another battery from eBay so will update this when it arrives as hopefully that will solve the problem.

"-- Recovery = Volume Up + Home + Power"
this worked for my S4 mini when it would not charge after running out of battery, Thank you :D

My phone is dead for a month and there's no vibration and display while im charging it. he's dead -.-- actually dead. what should i do? Thanks

I've came to the conclusion that Samsung products are not very good.

My S3 mini is dead and its less than 4 months old. Same problem as others - no life in it no matter what I do. Battery wasn't fully run down when I put it on to charge but when I went back later it was dead.
Joining it on the scrap heap is my Samsung Galaxy tab 2 which was less than 18 months old and not used heavily either. It has been back to the manufacture twice! They replaced the battery 1st time but when I got it home it refused to charge and had to go back and now they say its some utility that isn't covered under warranty. I will avoid Samsung in future. Both these products, and all the accessories I bought for them, have been a complete waste of money.

Starting to feel badly about Samsung. My S3 mini stopped last night for no apparent reason. I wasn't using or charging it, it vibrated and went off. It wouldn't turn on again with or without the charging cable. Husband has the same phone so we switched batteries, my battery works fine in his phone. 70%+ charge. His battery in my phone made no difference. So I can only conclude it is the phone and not the battery.

Only had it since March this year.

Tried getting it to boot in the safe mode mentioned earlier in the thread but no joy. Any ideas? I can probably get Vodafone to swap it... But foolishly had number saved to my phone not sim (kids school friends mums so we can arrange stuff over the summer holidays - can't get them back still school starts again!)

Falling out with Samsung because this is only a month after my Samsung chrome book died for no reason when it was less than 12 months old.

I have the same problem. my phone came up with a triangle and had ! in it and in the corner it had another triangle in it with a battery with a line throw the middle. I thought it was the battery so I brought a new one its been on charge for 2 days with 2 different charger and still not turning on. I don't know what to do can you give me advice. I have already tried the power, the middle and higher volume button at the same time but still not working. Thanks.
