Samsung Galaxy S4 Battery Life

Want lots more battery, get the Seidio 4500 mah battery, that will take care of your battery needs. Got mine today. Been unplugged for 9 hours and am at 75% battery left.

Installed Snapdragon Guru, so far I don't notice anything particular in the way of benefits. OTOH, it was scary last night. I put my phone in airplane mode with the battery at over 70% and went to bed. This morning, I wake up with audible alerts telling me the battery is low. Indeed, it is down to 15%---that was overnight, in airplane mode. That never happened before. It always drains surprisingly fast overnight even in airplane mode---by a tune of 8-10% or so---but losing 50% overnight when the phone, bluetooth and wi-fi are all off??

That's new. If I point the finger at Snapdragon Guru, I can't prove it, but it never happened before.

I think I may uninstall BatteryGuru. I've had it installed for a while now, and after having analyzed it for a week or so, my battery life has decreased on the whole. Not to mention that my Wifi turns on during the night randomly and wastes even more battery. I though it was supposed to be smart, but it seems to be really, really stupid at this point. Any viable and actually good alternatives for my Galaxy S4?

I'm not sure the WiFi part of it is worth turning on. It hardly uses any battery and helps with finding your location, which may actually use less battery.

I can't comment on what mine does overnight unplugged because I charge overnight. I'm not sure what advantage there might be to not doing that, but I'll let everyone else decide for themselves on that one.

This all seems super difficult to really pin down becasue of the ridiculous number of settings and features these phones have now. With all of the S4 features combined with location and state based profiles, location sharing and logging and all the Google Now stuff it's really difficult to get an exhaustive list of what people are doing to get great battery life.

This is what I've achieved with Battery Guru.

Yes, with large numbers of apps, different settings, combos of configurations, it is hard to troubleshoot and make sense of based on anecdotal evidence.

I can tell you:

-Location - All off, except the network location.
-Battery Guru - All on "refresh only when opened". Wifi manager off. Data off when screen is off option.

And do you have it present in the task manager? Those are the exact settings I have too. Do you have anything else installed? Do you find that BatteryGuru gives you a lot of wakelocks?

I think it is actually giving me a lot of wakelocks. But battery life wasn't nearly this good until I started using it, so I'll take it. Also not in task manager. I personally disabled a lot of bloat in the app manager. Voicemail and FB messenger were actually causing a lot of wakelocks for me. Maps does occasionally as well.

You downloaded Watchdog to check for those, right? Messages gives me a LOT of wakelocks. It's actually depressing lol

Honestly, sometimes it pisses me off :P One cycle I'll get 3 days strong out of the phone, and one cycle it's barely 2 with less usage. *shrug*

After that frightening overnight battery drain once Snapdragon "learned" how I use the device (70% to 15 while in airplane mode), I uninstalled Snapdragon. Tonight, it was the usual 8% drain while in airplane mode. I think, considering the circumstances, it was indeed Snapdragon causing the huge drain. Can't say I saw much in the way of benefit, but that overnight drain was unacceptable. The 2d night without Snapdragon--a small 4% drain overnight with an Anker battery. Normalcy restored.

Hi! I just got my galaxy a few days ago, and the battery has been pretty bad. I would loose 20% in about 2 hours. and by the end of the day, I get about 2 hours of actual on screen time. I know that is not normal, but you were saying your battery life got better after a week, and I was wondering if that is a normal thing to have happen. What was your battery like before and after?
thanks!

Hi,

The S4 is my first Android phone and I have to say that battery life is great.

I just plugged in my phone to charge after 18 hours of heavy use and stand by (5% left before charge).

:D

Could you provide a screen shot of your screen time hours?

How did u get 18 hours on heavy use?

"heavy use and stand by" - this is very ambiguous and could mean 20 minutes of heavy use and 17 hours of standby or 20 minutes of standby and 17 hours of heavy use, or anything in between.

18 hours is nothing... I just make sure my apps are closed. I use my phone all day for e-mails and text messages and some music. Now if you stream anything it will go down, but I usually get 18 hours of usage on my phone before I need to connect it to a charger.:)
