Samsung Galaxy S4 SD Card Issue

That means there's no hope of a software update to fix it? Mine started playing up again today... :-(

Its seems to be all makes of cards. I have a Samsung 8GB card that my S4 has decided to unmount and will not remount, no matter how many times i try a soft reset. It will not identify that the card is even in the phone to format again.

What if you format it in your PC ?
---
I'm not sure it's an hardware issue though. Maybe the driver for this card reader, which might well be different from the S3's and S2's, is responsible for the issue. All drivers being distributed within the same 4.2 version, you wouldn't find the issue on an S2 or S3 and it would show off on the S4.

Anyhow, what we all need to do is send our complaints to Samsung on our respective Samsung support sites, so that they give some attention to it.

Hi,

I have read all thread related to SD card problem. Some of u it's saying it's H/W problem and some it's S/W. Mine it's definitely S/W. Mine SD it's being unexpectedly removed when I access to my photo's (not all the time), and sometimes when I receive a phone call (no vibration).
Off course when i restart my GS4 everything it?s back to normal.

So today I'll try to format my SD and tell u what happens.

I tried the business card trick with no luck at all.

So last night I tried reformatting the card in a (Windows 7) Command prompt to FAT32. After two hours of progress, it told me the volume was too large for FAT32.

This left me with an essentially unformatted card. Windows couldn't read it. So I popped it in the phone. Phone said "SD card is not readable" or some such, so I let it format the card.

I then added just 4 albums worth of songs (Laura Marling, if you're interested!). Since last night I have been listening fairly solidly, and have had no incidences of SD card problems so far. I even tried shaking the phone quite vigorously, I've walked around, nothing is making the card hiccup right now.

This is still early days but it looks good so far...

Well, both times, my cards took 28 days to the letter to conk out. Updates at that time?

Mine conked out almost immediately on insertion the day I bought it. Maybe your problem is a different but related problem? I'll let you know in 28 days or sooner!

I got too excited too soon. Worked fine for 2 days with just a handful of files on there. As soon as I dumped my entire 50Gb music collection on there, it's back to its old tricks. "SD card unexpectedly removed" every 10 minutes or so.

I'm fairly convinced now it is a software/driver issue, not hardware/physical so I at least have some hope for future updates fixing this mess. Maybe the update to allow apps to be stored on the SD card will have involved some rewrite of the interface between phone and card, and the issue might go away?

I have annoying issue with my SD card.
I copying files from SD card to PC using USB. When I unplug the usb cable and restarting the phone I am getting message that SD card is damaged and I need to format it.
Anybody else have this problem?

I have this problem too, since the latest Verizon update. Even connected to a computer, my SD card cannot be seen. Going to put it into my son's phone (GS3) just so I can download the data.

This started when I flashed the sprint update about 2 weeks ago. Used odin to revert back but somehow the issue followed. Hopefully the issue is resolved with an update and Samsung becomes aware of this issue.

I fixed the same problem as you guys are having.

Previously I had a Galaxy Note 2 and I was running a 64gb SanDisk class 10 and wasn't having any trouble. Then I got the S4 and was constantly getting the "sd card unexpectedly removed" and "mounting sd card" messages constantly.

Given all of my music/photos is on the card that was really annoying. Then I found this thread. I did some more research.

I purchased a Samsung 32gb SD card from this vendor. And after 2 weeks of running it, it has been flawless. No more errors, just the functionality I expected when I bought the S4. Give it a try!

Well, I guess you're going to have the issue soon. Some other people on this thread also had Samsung SD cards, ... and the very same issues with it.

I did a factory reset and it worked but for about a week with a sandisk 32g. I put a 16g Samsung sd card and it has been flawless hope it keeps running that way.

Maybe, maybe not. The Sandisk immediately had issues. the Samsung has been good so far.

I've had my s4 for a month now and didn't have issues with my SD card until I woke up this morning to see that it was "Removed". It wouldn't let me remount it. (Same thing happened to my Note 1 a year or so ago). All of my photos and videos apps were on that card. I went and bought a 32GB SanDisk card today and it took it just fine but my phone was having issues since it was showing apps that weren't installed any longer (Due to that memory card being done). I reset the phone and downloaded all of my apps again and moved them to SD. A few minutes later my phone reset itself and when it came on it didn't have the app images. I checked the SD card and it was mounted just fine but when I'd click on the apps it would say something like "Not installed". So I deleted the apps and downloaded them again to my phone. Now I'm just not going to copy to SD cause I'm assuming my phone doesn't play nice with Apps to SD to sandisk. A bit of an annoyance.

Could it be that the card had been unmounted and you did not notice the pop up warning ?
Or else it is a different issue you have.
