Samsung Galaxy S4 SD Card Issue

I've had similar, VERY frustrating experiences. Brand new S4, and I bought a brand new Samsung Class 10 micro HCSD card. Put it in, transferred some songs and apps to it, then the apps and songs disappeared or were renamed with strange characters. Nothing critical was lost, so I reformatted the card in the phone, after first unmountinig and removing to make sure contacts were clean. All seemed good, and I transferred a lot of music, movies and PDFs to the card. Again, all seemed fine until later on, when one of the most recent MP3s was deemed unplayable. Not getting a good vibe, I restarted the phone, and over 90% of what I put on the card is gone or unreadable. Getting mighty ticked off!

As i mentioned in my post in the previous page, using class 4 card actually worked for me. No issues for the past 10 days or so. inserting a piece of paper, under or above the card has no effect at all. this is not a mechanical problem.

I've got a SanDisk ULTRA 64GB that gives me the unexpected remove error all the time. Yesterday I added a cheap 16gb card that I had in a Sharp Smarphone for about 2 years, worked fine, but got burnt... unusable now ...

I'm really thinking of getting a Samsung one... Is yours still good?

Well, for the moment still no issue seen.
I cross my fingers.

There was one guy here who told us he inserted a piece of thick paper below the SD card and that worked. His wording was not rally clear. So, I tried, but with the paper ABOVE the SD card, since it was making more sense to me and it did not work. Never tried the other way around... Please tell us if it keeps working in several weeks, just to be sure !

Is your card still fine?

Recently picked up a Galaxy s4 and purchased a Samsung 64 gb class 10 card for it. Fried it in two hours. Card Reader doesn't pick it up either. DON'T waste more money. The SD slots are obviously junk on these phones.. Explains why the 32gb version is over twice the price I guess....have to fork out the dough for reliable memory.

I am having the same exact issues! At first I thought it was the SD card so I returned the one I had and bought a different one (same company - San Disk 64GB). I ended up having the same problems. Then I watched this video and I think it helped *crosses fingers*

How to Fix SD card Unexpectedly Removed error - YouTube

They tell you to put the card in, unmount it from your phone, put it back in and then restart the phone. So far nothing...I hope it stays that way.

Good luck!

Ok I just got my Galaxy S4 a few weeks ago. I just put sd in and after taking pictures and videos of my first graders program it shows android icon with lightning bolt. I read everyone's post on here. So I chatted with a Samsung rep and mine is working great. He told me to click camera then click lower left button to settings and in setting change from phone to sd card. I have had a problem in one whole day its working great!!! FINGERS CROSSED. If you havent tried this I suggest it. I think it fixed my problem .

I have the same issue, usually when playing music. The phone will report that the SD Card was removed unexpectedly and I have to restart the phone. I've tried listening and feeling for a "click"
when installing the card, but neither seem to exist once the card is seated. I've even sent my phone back to Samsung for repair and the issue still exists. Like others in the thread I'm using a SanDisk Ultra card, so maybe I'll try ordering one from Samsung. Should the problem persist, I'm sending the phone back to Samsung again and I'll report back here on the results of both the new card and (potentially) sending the phone in for repair.

Giving this solution a go. So far so good.

I have the same problem. the camera can not save to extsdcard, can not copy / paste, can not delete file, can not create folders. extsdcard can only be read alone. I use the microSD 64GB class10 Kingstone. s4 permissions problem on the device can only be read alone. untu systems and devices and I extsdcard fox with r / w on condition diroot phones. but permasalahnya permission r / w can not be permanent, and how many seconds will return to r / o. using total comander or shell emulator.

Hi thanks for the information on the memory card issues ..my own card has been playing up .
Thank again

I had the same issue on my wife and I's S4. I ended up calling VZW because our SD Cards kept dismounting and havng them send me two 32 GB S4's. Now we just keep our images on internal storage.

Well, since I have the Samsung card I described earlier, I don't have unmounting issues anymore.
Looks like Samsung only tested with their own cards !

Same issue here,
Brand new S4
64GB Sandisk micro SD card.

This morning is was going crazy so I opened the card up on the computer and deleted the Lost.dir folder and the Android folder and it's been fine since.

The local tech here says they sell cards with the Android logo on them? Think it's worth trying one of these cards?
Not sure where to find a Samsung SD locally.
:'(

Dropbox, Google+. Both free and both offer photo backup from the phone over data or wi-fi.
If you're into Microsoft, Skydrive does the same thing also for free.
NO ONE keeps thousands of photos on a phone with no backup
.

Please tell me you found a way to fix this. I have the exact same problem and a lot of music.

As said, my new Samsung 64GB card shows no issue while the Sandisk does. It's a pity, but, well, in the end I wanted it to work. Sort of forced sales, don't like it, but ...

Well I had no issues for 4 days with tons of use after deleting the lost.dir and android folders.
Plugged the phone into my laptop to drag some more music over and instantly started having the issues again.
I don't have access to another Micro SD card at the moment but I'm doing a long and painful format right now and will try it again.
Might have to purchase another card but hard to find a Samsung SD card locally, not sure who would be a retailer for them .
