Samsung Galaxy S5 not charging - Continuous loop of gray battery when off while plugged in

Phone doesn't charge at all when on, but when the phone is turned off a gray battery icon appears every 5 seconds when plugged in. Tried different usb cords and different walls. However, sand has gotten into the charging port before.

I am literally having the same problem. Please let me know if you find a fix.
