So this is my first post here. I'm just looking for an answer, I didn't do any looking around to see if its been asked already. Probably has.

So I have a Samsun Galaxy S5 with Rogers. And for some reason. I have to have my mobile data on to send and receive pictures. But only through the texting app. Not through kik(I can use strictly WiFi.) I hit my data cap today, and now I can't sent/receive pictures, it just gives me a download button. So I turned off my data limit. The person sending pictures has an Iphone 5.

Now what would make sense is to be on WiFi and still be able to send pictures. Can someone help me out. Cause this seems pretty stupid.

Hi there,

The reason you can get photos over WiFi on kik is because kik supports the picture sending over WiFi but with your stock messaging app, you must have mobile data enabled because it is sent over data and not over wifi.

I hope my explanation is helpful (it's probably all wrong, but that's how I figure). And if your downloading pictures off of text, it shouldn't use too much data (unless you have limit of GB or MB of data).

You may try downloading a 3rd party app such as GoSMS to use temporarily until your next billing cycle comes and you get more data. Otherwise, it sounds like your carrier counts MMS as data used (many carriers do not). There are some 3rd party apps that allow downloading MMS over WiFi and that may get you by for the time being.
