Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. HTC One M9

Re: S6 or M9

Samsung seemed to launch quite a decent phone, without too much extra bloatware. Going definitely to a good direction - I'd give them a chance.

Re: HTC One M9 and Samsung Galaxy S6: MY Initial Impressions

Battery is an industry wide issue.

There's two ways to attack battery, one with new battery tech, the other with less power-hungry silicon (CPU, RAM, Flash). One of these days I expect Samsung to do the former, they've got the materials expertise and resources. But until then it seems they're doing the latter, same as everyone else.

Re: M9 VS S6

I am still waiting for my Z tablet to get lollipop. They mentioned in November they were working on it. It's now Match. That doesn't give me a lot of confidence going forward. I love their hardware though so we'll see.

Yeah, it's frustrating. However, I've heard so many differing things from various people about their own particular Lollipop experience, that I'd rather wait a while and have as near a bug free version as possible.

Saw this today though, so maybe soon...

Re: S6 or M9

I'm coming from an older phone (Galaxy S3), so either of these are going to be massive updates for me, personally.

With both phones fully revealed, and both essentially being released to the public at the same time (April 1 vs April 20, I believe), and both being priced essentially the same, I'm really having a hard time deciding between the two. I hate that neither have removable batteries. I recently bought a new battery for my S3 and it breathed life back into the old gal. Over 2 years of daily use kills a battery, and I was getting less than half-a-day use on the old battery. New battery? Back to 2 days usage again. So, it leads me to be a little wary of losing that feature.

I don't switch phones often. I buy one and use the hell out of it, and try to make it at least 2 if not 3 years on it. Longevity is key. And, it just has to work. The slippery back of the HTC means potential for drops. The glass back of the S6 means the potential for breaks. The better camera of the S6 is a feature I will definitely use. But the expandable storage on the M9 is also welcome. The M9's front speakers just make so much sense. But the potentially better screen on the S6 is also a good thing.

I'm super torn right now. I'm not going to use the Edge screen, so I can throw that out. They are both so damn good but also both in the so-close-but-not-quite camp. I honestly don't know which I'm going to purchase. And, it may come down to just holding them each in hand and seeing what feels right, and making a spur-of-the-moment decision and living with it.

Well, there will likely be a lot more accessories for the S6 if that makes any difference.

I need a new phone and I've been between these 2 and the Moto X for a while...

I think I would have to say the HTC. The camera may not be as nice, but the nice housing and easier OS are worth it for me.

Some things for you to consider:

Durability: If the One M8 is any indication, the One M9 will be able to take a beating. (See CrackBerry Kevin's article on the M8's durability here.) Needless to say, the GS6's design isn't going to make it the most durable phone out there.

Uh-Oh! On a similar note, HTC has the Uh-Oh program (if you are in the U.S.), basically giving you a free year of insurance. From what I understand, if you break your phone in any way, HTC will overnight a new one to you *before* you have to send the old one back in. To my knowledge, Samsung doesn't have anything like this.

Software Longevity: Samsung's software has a history of slowly becoming heavier and bogged down after prolonged use. HTC's software has proven to stay speedy and reliable. Also, HTC has taken a lot of its apps and services and moved them into the Play Store. So you can get updates without having to update the entire OS.

Those things are on top of the things you already mentioned, such as expandable storage and BoomSound.

In the GS6's favor, you have a better/faster camera, wireless charging, and more accessory support.

I'll take a HTC phone over a Samsung device anytime.

While the camera is important to me the phones reception is even more important and Samsungs radios have always been lousy.
