Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Tv remote control apps

Has anyone here successfully used a remote control app on their edge 7?

I previously had a galaxy 5, and used the peelsmart remote app, and never had any issues.

Today i downloaded that same app and tried setting it up with both my living room and game room tvs and it didnt work at all. I went through the setup with like 20 attempts each with no results

Is this phone not enabled for that feature, or is that app just messed up??

It does not have an IR blaster, which you need for that app I believe. Bummer, because it's a nice feature.

There is a good hardware I read about it. Unfortunately I don't remember the name but I really want to find it again. It's a 360° IR blaster and you can use their app.

Yes certainly. Update to the S8 Edge when it comes out. Samsung will probably have brought it back then but dropped the SD card again so we'll be no better off in the long run.

I only ever used it a couple of times on my Note 3 but it was useful at work in the lunch room when someone was hogging the remote They all had iPhones so I felt superior.

Too bad that they dropped the IR blaster because I find it very useful. You can use something like the Logitech Harmony Hub and their smartphone app to control IR devices. Not inexpensive, but it works pretty well.

It's pretty lame they take away cool features , that they can reintroduce again in future versions

I can see if Microsoft, HTC, or even Apple dropped IR but SAMSUNG??? The worlds leading TV manufacturer!!
I'm not pi$$ed and can live without it but just find it incredibly strange..

The only 2 remote control apps I use are for my Roku and Fios they work off the wireless network no need for ir and no need to point your phone toward your device. Of course the only thing they do not do is volume control of my AVR.

To each his own. I've had several phones with IR blasters, and except to play with it on the first phone, I've never used them. But for those who do, it's too bad Sammy took it out. I guess something had to give to fit the bigger battery, waterproofing, and the SD card slot into basically the same size package as before.

I liked the option. Good for hotels when working away and the remote didn't work and I was too bone idle to go to the front desk! But I could live without!

Just got my new S7 today, not thinking to check if it came with the IR blaster cause I assumed it would, and I'm pissed. I freaking loved have that. My remote was always at my finger tips. Just not as super excited to have my new phone now. Please bring that back!

I too was pissed off when I got home and was setting my phone up and realized they had ditched the IR blaster. Honestly, I didn't use it a ton but it was nice to have. Oh well.

They couldn't do SD last year because of the memory controller. Couldn't integrate with that UFS 2.0. This year they figured it out. As far as them telling why they do stuff, they usually do. But they're not gonna say why they didn't put a certain feature in because that's like negative advertisement. They'd rather just not mention that they don't have a certain feature. My guess is not too many people even used the feature. I used it to show off every now and then, but otherwise, it never got used. It does suck for the people who used it though.

Correct, you cannot use Peel because the Galaxy S7 does not have an IR blaster (hardware).

However, if you have a Samsung Smart TV then you can use the "Remote for Samsung TV" app by FreeAppsTV to control it. FreeAppsTV made similar apps for other TV manufacturers as well.

It works well but there are a lot of ads. I am willing to pay $ for the ad free version but I can't find it.
It connects via Wi-Fi and enables you to power on and off the TV, change the source input, enter the TV menu, navigate the Hub (i.e. open Netflix, HBO Now, etc.), and control the TV volume. Unfortunately, because the Samsung TV is not able to control the volume on external speakers, the volume on external speakers cannot be adjusted.

In addition, if you have Comcast, Verizon, etc. then there are apps to control the cable box.

The Xfinity X1 Remote does not enable volume control either.

Some items can be controlled via WiFi. For example the Dish Hopper, Yamaha AV receiver, LG TV, Nvidia Shield Android TV and may other audio video equipment.

Yes, I believe so. You'll note the Mobeam / Beep'nGo service does actually work on the S7. You won't see IR with the naked eye, of course, but if you point another device's camera at it when it's sending a barcode, you'll see the IR LED is still there. So it looks like it's purely a software issue, with Samsung failing to provide the standard Android IR Blaster API.

If Mobeam can be (ab)used to send consumer IR codes, or if you have root, then it can probably be made to work. In the meantime though, bug Samsung about it because they can fix it.
