I saw a post not long ago asking about salt water and the galaxy s8. I searched but can't find anything(I don't know why but it never finds anything I search for). I am at the beach now and have been for 4 days. I have thoroughly put my s8 through the ringer on the beach. I have dropped it in the ocean, in the sand, dropped in the sand and didn't realize it dropped while the water washed back and forth on it. When I found it it was almost completely buried in the sand. I grabbed it took it to the rv sink and rinsed it. It seams like everything is working fine. This is a good phone so far.

I have a case on it 24/7 but at the beach it is going butt naked.

Salt water can do way more damage than fresh water, so you should monitor the phone over the next few days.

As far as I know, the tests are made with fresh water. All other liquids can cause damage.

Just don't make it annual occurrence, reason being is the salt WILL corrode.

So while it's cool it held up it won't over a prolonged period of time.

If you read the User Manual, you'll see that (1) the phone is not rated for exposure to salt water, and (2) if your phone is exposed to salt water, you're supposed to rinse it with fresh water immediately. "Failure to rinse the device in fresh water and dry it as instructed may cause the device to suffer from operability or cosmetic issues."

Don't do it. Salt water is corrosive.
Already did it. Not on purpose.

I had to blow out the ports real well but after that it charged to 100%twice without issues and I have NOT noticed anything wrong.

No scratches on the front or back from sand. That is why I went naked. If I had left it the case it would most definitely have gotten scratched all over. I do pay for the insurance for damage or loss protection, and the damage does include water damage.

I did also rinse the phone as soon as it saw sand each time.

I have left the beach and am back at work and the phone seems the same as before. Not one symptom. This thing is built well. No doubt.

Both sand and salt water are terrible ideas. It's not rated to withstand either.

I'm glad you were able to throw caution to the wind and enjoy your phone. I am not that brave lol.

Yeah iP68 ratings are not salt water ratings. The fact that you rinsed it with fresh water immediately is good.

I showered it real well last night. I know direct water stream to the ports or seals is not good but again the phone is working properly.

There are a few things I don't like about the galaxy s8 but build quality is NOT one of them. Best built Samsung I have ever used.

i took my G6 in the sea...and after the swim...(it was in a case...) i did some shopping and sheesha...after 2 hrs when i was back in the room i rinsed my phone under tap water and phone was working fine after 1 day after charging port was dry (rinsed the phone naked )
