Hi,
I am really sorry for the length of my post. But your help is highly appreciated.

I do not know if the described problem has to do with this issue. My Phone fell down into water about a year ago. Only the bottom has been in water,
not the whole phone. Then there have been some problems. It didn't startup properly etc. Now it seems to work again. I have not tested everything.
An unofficial service shop has tested a bit and says that there is no problem.
(By the way, they said they tested also the microphone. I did not gave them the telephone code. How is that possible?)

Now, and since months my Phone Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus (SM-G965F) is not recognized anymore when I connect it via USB cable with my Notebook, Lenovo Windows 10, x64.
I have installed the latest version of Smart Switch. But even without Smart Switch there is an error message in Windows (translated from German):
"USB device was not recognized.
At this moment I am also downloading the latest version of Android.

The last USB device, that was connected to this computer did not properly work and is not recognized by Windows.
Windows Explorer
"

I strongly assume that the cable is original. I have not found any other.
Another (not original cable) is not even recognized with an error message.
But nevertheless, I think I will buy a new original cable.

I have followed the instructions and enabled the Developer Mode on Android, and MTP is enabled, BUT it is not shown in the top menu bar on Home screen (when you scroll it downwards):

Thanks in advance!

Considering that there has been water exposure in the past, I'd suspect that something in the USB port has corroded. You may have to get that part replaced.

Hi and thanks,
but the phone is properly charging with that cable!

Try another USB slot if it has one also

Hi,
i have tried, none worked.

I also tried under Linux Mint. The Phone is not recognized but charged. Now i have learned that there are two connector one for charging and one for data transfer.

So a change of the usb connector at the phone would lead to success recognizing the phone under Windows? Or could there be another factor for the error? Just wanted to know that in advance.

Yes and USB port change on the phone could fix it, but the water damage may be further into the phone than the port itself.

Just to double check you, have you choosen the appropriate selection from the notification, of connecting phone to computer, in the status bar? Screenshot_20191229-072051.jpegScreenshot_20191229-072112_Settings.jpeg

Hi,

i have no screen like that on the top bar mentioning data transfer. But i have enabled it in the developer settings. No change.

I am not able to backup at the moment (via cable). Can you tell me any good program for windows so that I can send all my important files to my notebook securely? E.g. via WiFi.

S9+ has one charging cable that it uses to charge or send data . Try restarting your computer if you done so also put the phone in safe mode see if it recognize it . Also check another computer see if it recognize it there and make sure your USB port on the phone is clear from lint and dirt .

Hi mustang, Ok i will try both ways.

The shop did not repair, they only tested, they said.

Other questions:
1) I don't want to be paranoid but afterwards I have remembered that I had sensible/important data on that phone. I did not giv them the phone code to get access from the locked screen to my phone. I did not gave the service shop any code. Bitdefender has mentioned that there was failed access attempt to my phone, to get access to it. It took a picture. I have configured it for that.
My question is: Could the workers of the phone service shop get any kind of access, e.g. by cracking my phone or just trying. I mean, they are professionals or semi-professionals. My phone code consists just of four digits. There was no SIM-card inside the phone.
2) When I took my phone back the date was set to january 1st. Why that? How can that be? It was charged full there because I could not charge at home. Did they remove the battery and set it back?

I appreciate you help and want to apologize for my noobie questions. Sorry!

I dont believe they could get into your phone , because they would have to allow access prompts to connect to their computer and to do that you need to get into the phone to allow it .
I'm not sure how the date changed possible without the sim in it . No repair shop will work on a phone without you factory reset or you unlocking it and watching them look at the issue in front of you .

Hi again mustang and all others,
- i tried Safe Mode on my Samsung phone on my notebook: No success. Charging but not recognizing fpr data transfer.
- another notebook, my Samsung normal mode and in Safe mode: no success again. the same

edit: How can they test the microphone and other units (as they said) if it is working properly, without access to my phone?

Thank you all for your patience.

Smart switch , but the only problem is your phone not being recognized by the computer .
I would use Samsung cloud if your not sign in to back up everything as well as Google photos.

Also if you go phone settings at the top search bar type in usb settings and tap it clear data, cache, force stop it see if you can connect to computer. Screenshot_20191229-112854_Settings.jpeg

Hi,

What if I dont't want to use Samsung Cloud or Google Photos? ;)
Isn't there any secure software for connection (e.g. over WiFi) from my phone to my notebook?

Not that I'm aware of , maybe other members can chime in but I have lot of Samsung devices and had zero issues doing through cloud or google photos security wise or losing information .
