Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 won't charge

Re: samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 wont charge

I know this wont be the p.s. for most but I felt pretty stupid when I realized that the plug that plugs into the plug was not actually plugged in. That aside it is absolutely true that using it while charging is the fastest way to ruin this tablet.

Well after evangelizing Samsung for years to everyone I know and investing in (qty 2) Galaxy Tab 2 10.1"s (as well as a new washer and dryer) I can honestly say I will never purchase a Samsung product again. Starting about a month ago I am experiencing the inability to charge on both of my tablets. Same exact symptoms. Yes I have the two original chargers. Yes I am giving it enough amperage. Nothing has changed except I let them run out of juice completely. They are salvageable but now I have to go through the pain of doing a stupid "hold some buttons and pray" reboot process every time this happens. Every time I do it I seethe over the lack of an update. I did not buy these tablets to have to worry that they might run out of battery and trigger this. After months of dealing with this Samsung has still not issued a fix. Clearly this is on Samsung as the issue is their boot graphics and any running apps it won't shut down when you run out of juice keeps the tablets from charging. I know I am not alone here because there are so many examples of other facing the same issue on every forum I checked. Some people who called Samsung were told to purchase a new tablet. I've had luck with Asus in the past and it looks like I am back with them now. It just so happens I am in the market for 2 new tablets. My only criteria is they not be Samsung branded.

We had a good thing for a while Samsung. You threw my admiration and loyalty on the rocks.

Re: samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 wont charge

It really works, I never heard of ADB but will never forget it now.

Also, for those with the red x in the lightning bolt while it's turned on, I used anothers advise to fix this one. Plug it in, before the x shows up, pull the plug and reinsert several times, the x will go away. Be warned, if it's turned off completely, the next time you try to charge while turned off you need to do the same plug trick all over again.

Again, thank you!

Wow My Galaxy Tablet also wouldn't Charge and I read a few responses on the forum and found out that the problem is the charger. Once I used the charger that came with the Samsung Tab.. It worked... No other charger worked and also couldn't charge it plugged into my computer. It is charging now because of the original charger... Thanks...

From the posts here and elsewhere on the net, the charging problems with the Samsung Galaxy Tabs seem to be summarised as follows:

1) When the Tab is operating, the standard mains charger struggles to provide enough current to also charge the battery (the problem gets worse as the battery ages)
2) Some Samsung mains chargers are not up to the job- there seems to have been a low current batch (the problem gets worse as the battery ages)
3) The connector on the Tab is small and suffers from debris ingress, corrosion, and bent contacts.
4) Some Samsung cables make unreliable contact with the Tab connector
5) Samsung cables can become intermittent, especially when bent

The solutions seem to be:

1) Put the Tab in low power mode to charge or get a better, higher current charger (members report that car chargers fix the problem-they often have more stable voltage and higher current capability)
2) Put the Tab in low power mode to charge or get a better higher current charger (comment as 1) above)
3) Clear out debris with a plastic or wooden tooth pick. Clean off corrosion with alcohol. Straighten pins (with tooth pick?)
4) Get a better cable
5) Get a better cable

I don't have a Samsung Tab but was considering one- perhaps not now in view of the problems you have all being having!

it wont charge its got the red x on it still the only way it will charge if its off what do you think I should do?

I had the same problem. Disconnect USB connector from charger block. Connect Tab connector. Connect USB to PC or laptop. So far, so good..

I got a samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 for christmas. Yesterday the battery ran right down I put it on charge and it just wont charge every now and again it comes up with an empty battery icon or a battery icon with a gold/yellow colour filling halfway up the icon other than that the screen is just blank it wont turn on or off I have plugged it into the wall and also tried with my laptop and neither have worked it has now been on charge for about 36 hours any ideas? Thanks

On the one that the battery ran down real fast, all the tabs has to be closed and all running that to are running closed every thing has to be closed because if anything is on will run your battery down if its real fast something more than one is still open when to left and left it on. I hope this will help.

Hi ,Yes the same happened to me.Samsung will not charge, after reading a post here i disconnected the charger and starting blowing into the connection at the base of the Tablet..It has been working fine ever since,,,,

Solved!!!! I have 2 galaxy tabs loads charging issues round flashing on and of charging battery symbol !!! Red cross symbol also !! Or just not turning on !!! Tried everything !!! Nothing worked but I blew into the tab charge slot and the charger itself way hey charge perfect !!! Just blow into slots !!! I still have to do if get red cross or other issues hust unplug blow into slots and solves every time !!!!

I am having the same problem as we speak with my Samsung Galaxy tab 2 10.1! What did you do to resolve your issue? This is so frustrating and Samsung is of no help whatsoever! They want me to send it in. I am very skeptical on doing that.

1.hold the power button for about 5-10 sec

2.after 5-10 sec hold the volume down(just hold the power button)

3.then there will be a green android when you done clicking the power and volme downbutton

Thanks for the advice. The first 3 steps worked for me as my tablet sat idle and powered off for a month.:)

Re: samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 wont charge

I had to register on this board just to let you know that your trick works. My new Samsung Note was cycling instead of charging from a dead battery. I used the car charger to get it going and it worked. I never would have thought to do that, Thanks !

Re: samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 wont charge

I have the tab 2 10.1 , its deader than dead ... cant get it to wake up have tried all , even opened up the unit and unplugged the battery and replugged it in ... I turned off in recovery mode and it it will not come to life ..... why arnt their any local repair shops that can handle a firmware / software issue .... my unit has no signs of life , cold as ice , wont even warm when plugged in ....

blew into base, didnt work for other bases, but blowing into original base did the trick, posting for validity on a fix mentioned

Solved. Tried blowing, power save--nothing worked. Until I booted into ADB (hold power button and volume up for about 30 secs.) Selected 'restart.' Now I have the lightning bolt over the battery again. It's actually charging faster than ever, even before the red x issue.
