When I plug my Samsung Galaxy S7 into my HP laptop (both phone and laptop are new) it charges but nothing shows up on the screen. I took some pictures I want to download and save onto my laptop, but I can't. (It worked the first time I plugged my phone in, though.) Please help, thanks!

try uninstalling it in device manager. and let windows reinstall the driver.
to get to device manager right click on computer , then click on manage .
then in the left panel of that window click device manager

Plug your phone into your laptop then pull down the notification bar at the top of the screen touch connected for charging then select what you want it to do.

I turned off my phone, then plugged it into my laptop. A window popped up that says, "The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. Recommendation: Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly."

Are you using the USB cable the phone came with?

Try and download smart switch from the Samsung website. Maybe you're missing the drivers for Windows
