Hi guys. I have got a Galaxy S3 I9300. This was my brother in laws and he has given up trying to do anything with it after getting an S4.

It was stuck in a boot loop and was only ever able to go into "Download mode".
I tried to flash a stock rom, and when I was flashing it it got half way and failed.. it had a blue line halfway across the screen...
Now it wont boot loop but comes up with "firmware upgrade encountered an issue" etc etc.
I have tried quite a few different roms each one failing at "NAND (write) Start!!" "FAIL!"
I have researched this problem a lot and have tried lots of different ideas for a few days, but im sure im doing something wrong. (i am very new to this, but after a couple of days of research, i have a basic idea.)
I have tried on two different computers, no antivirus and KIES is unistalled or disabled. I have rebooted, tried several different ports, tried odin version 1.85, 3.04 & 3.07
Each one comes up with near on the same error. Only difference is, Some roms will "FAIL!" straight away... others seem to hang for a second or two longer... Then "FAIL!"
I have definately got a good connection to the phone as, Again, after a bit of research, i desided that seeing as i was going nowhere fast, i would try and reinstall the .pit file... Which i believe i did successfully as it went all the way through and came up with "PASS!"... Hoorah.
So i can still access Download mode... BUT cannot access Recovery mode.. Oh, and i tried Flashing "CWM" and still cannot get it to flash. (each rom and cwm i have put into "PDA" area of ODIN..

From what ive read several times over, i can still access Download mode, so all is not lost, but im wondering if this is a hardware error.. as my brother in law said it is rooted, and "Just went wrong, whilst listening to some music".

><
Hope y'all can help
Cheers Guys

oh and when i try and flash "CWM 6.0.3.1" the green bar on the odin gets about 2/3 of the way across... and then fails.

Hmmmm .. cant quite work this one out.

OK... DO YOU STILL HAVE PROBLEMS? THIS IS WHAT I DID AND WORKED. YOU HAVE TO DOWNLOAD THIS FILES
https://mega.co.nz/#!Xk5TTJCB!baJLcir8t5Asm7kAHNg4URNG4B8Q0AhXV1CXDzNUCnQ
https://mega.co.nz/#!i8AlUKiJ!cijBKzTu6aXbIcR8bDrs4grYDFRAMXeO6dXwWlylahs

THEN WITH ODIN YOU INSTALL THEM IN YOUR PHONE, BOTH OF THEM IN THE ORDER I JUST TOLD YOU
THEN YOU START IN RECOVERY MODE AND DO THIS
* Wipe cache partition * Wipe data factory
IN advance WE DO Wipe Dalvik cache
AND
THIS IS OPTIONAL BUT I RECOMMEND YOU DO IT, GO TO MOUNTS AND STORAGE AND FORMAT, CACHE, SYSTEM, DATA, PRELOAD, SDCARD.
AFTER THIS INSTALL THE ROM THAT YOU WANT WITH ODIN, AND IT WILL WORK. OF COURSE YOU NEED YOUR ROM BEFORE ALL THIS, RIGHT?
GOOD LUCK!

Can you elaborate on the method of installing these two files to the phone using ODIN? I am only familiar with using md5 files with ODIN. Thanks!

Below is how I was able to fix this issue:

1) Find your phone's PDA file. This page could help: [MODEM] Complete Modem List for both I747U & I747M - xda-developers
2) Select the PDA button and choose the PDA file from step 1.
2) Select "Nand Earse All" (this is what fixed it!!!), "Auto Reboot", "F. Reset Time" in Odin (I used v3.07)
3) Select the Start button

When done, the phone reboots. If the phone does not boot after a while (3 minutes?) and appears to be stuck, then enter "Android system recovery" by pressing and holding "VolUp, Home, Power". Then, do a "wipe data/factory reset" followed by a "wipe cache partition".

Enjoy your new phone :).
