Samsung Gear S3 control over phone answering

I was wondering if there may be a different way of handling this. I have had a Samsung Gear Live for the past 2 years. Although it ran on Android Wear, I loved the watch. The main purpose of me utilizing the watch was to be able to answer my phone without pulling out my phone and talking over my Bluetooth headset. I always had my headset linked to my phone because I am usually streaming music, radio stations, or videos. With the Gear S3, all I want it to do is answer my phone and not go to the speaker of the watch. I did try to link my headset to both my watch and my phone, but it would only link to one at a time. Any thoughts on how this can be accomplished or an app that can used?

Regards,
Robert

I've been struggling with this too. Kind of surprising, considering how well it worked on my original Gear S.
My Bluetooth headset refuses to transmit phone call audio.

For me, after I answer a call by accepting it on the Gear S3, I tap the menu button on the Gear S3 and tap on the option to send the call to my bluetooth headset if I happen to be wearing it.

It would be nice if I can set a preference within the Gear phone setting to always switch calls over automatically to a connected bluetooth headset if it's turned on.

What headset are you using? I wonder if I have a compatability problem.

So I found this video on YouTube that explains how to transfer the calls to a headset or back to the phone right from the watch.
When you answer a call, you open the the 3 dots to transfer.

Problem I'm having is that the headset icon is still grayed out, even after pairing it with my S3. It plays music from the watch through the headset just fine, but won't do phone calls.

Is the headset also paired to your phone when a call comes in?

It was, but it only played music from the phone. I unpaired it from the phone so it would only be paired to the watch, but the watch just doesn't see it for phone audio.

If it's not an LTE version that's receiving its own call, what you're describing will never work. If your cell phone is receiving the call, your headset must be connected to it to be able to use it. Otherwise it can't receive the audio. The watch can't retransmit on Bluetooth if it's receiving at the same time.

Also, I'm curious, if you just press answer on the headset instead of the watch, will it route the audio to the headset automatically?

With my s2 I could swipe to answer on my watch and it would answer through the cars Bluetooth while driving with my phone in my pocket. Haven't tried with my s3 yet.

Well, I only unpaired it from the phone because it didn't work paired to it anyway, as long as the watch is also connected. In other words, I haven't found a connection combo that will let me hear phone calls through my headset. The only option I have is the Gear speaker, or the phone. My old S used to be able to transfer audio between all three; the S3 can't.

Hi all,

Did anyone finde a solution for that? Because i'm having the same issue, using a One Plus 3 together with Bose quit comfort 35 headphones. I Wrote to Samsung support and the only answer i'm getting is: Your phone is not on the compatible list (although its fulfilling the requirements) and we can't guarantee that every BT headphone is working.

This really kinda sucks!

An app called Trigger. I'm using the free version, and set up two rules: one to connect to my headset phone audio when I connect them, and one to connect back to the watch phone audio when I disconnect the headset. Works like a charm.

Hi,

I do have the exact same issue, and finding a way without having to had an workaround app would be great I think..

this is just a normal usage of the watch, phone and headset.

I do have a plantronics Pro. and it's grayed out in the call switching.
looks like it is only recognized as a music head-set, not a phone head-set.

Everybody's got the same issue: it won't work. You need the workaround.

I have the non-LTE version of the gear S3. Regarding the bluetooth headset control using the Gear S3. I have found out that the call functionality for the bluetooth headset only works if the bluetooth headset is connected to the phone. In other words, the Gear S3 acts like a remote that switches between phone and headset. I found it kind of redundant to answer calls through the Gear S3 while wearing the headset. I mostly just use it to verify who is calling me then answer it through the headset which is connected to the phone.

I got round this using the app 'trigger'. For my Oneplus 3 & bose qc35, two rules:

1. Add a rule when connecting a bluetooth device, select your headphones, then add 2 actions
a) disconnect device - gear s3 BT, b) connect device Bose qc35 selecting "media and phone"

2. When bluetooth disconnected from qc35, then add a rule saying connect to gear s3 selecting "media and phone".

This seems to allow the phone connection to toggle between the gear s3 or qc35's when they are on. Without this the qc35s never 'grab' the phone connection from the s3 when they switch on (on the phone when you look at the BT connection for the QC35's the 'phone audio' is unchecked, as the S3 still 'has' it.

Hope this helps

I to have a oneplus 3, i just went to the bluetooth setting and disconnected the samsung gear s3. I checked in the samsung app, and it stated it was still connected, tried calling my phone and this time it went to the handset rather than the phone. I still got the notification on my phone of a call, but all i could was reject it.

Hope this help your particular problem.
