Samsung Messages bug sends user photos to contacts without permission or logs

Guess I'm switching to Android Messages, which means that I'll lose RCS... but I'd prefer the loss of RCS to having my contacts spammed with random photos from my phone.

I wonder how long it'll take 'em to fix THIS one?!?

I thought so, too, but I can't find the settings after installing it on my phone. Maybe it only works with Samsung Messages (or LG's stock messenger app) on T-Mobile?

What's RCS?

I saw this issue posted in a Galaxy S9 / S9+ Facebook group and downloaded Textra app and I'm using that as a main app for texting.

I received a random text (someone not in my contacts) that said, 'Hi. Delete all your photos.' something like that. I couldn't understand why someone was texting me that. And now I know why.

It's a service that's carrier dependent, so even if you install an app that supports RCS, you still can't use it if your carrier doesn't support it.

The biggest differences are that it's more like iMessages in which you can see what the person on the other end is doing...somewhat. For instance, you can see if the recipient has read your message, and you can see when the recipient is typing.

I am with Verizon who mimics RCS by using its home cooked app Message+ but it's only effective if the other user also uses Message+ I don't really want those features, but, as one of the biggest US carriers, I'm disappointed in Verizon for not having it.

SMS is an old pocket pager protocol - who needs more than 160 characters to send a phone number? Who needs a "received" verification? Who needs anything else?

RCS is eventually going to be a full messaging protocol - client to client via Wifi - no need for the carrier. No limit on picture size. Receipts and re-receipts and anything else they can think of. It's still in the experimental stages, and most of what it can do hasn't been thought of yet.

And djrakowski, as XTERM1NADOR said, Android Messages has RCS also. (Not very much of it yet, but no one has much of it yet. There isn't much of it yet. Client to client is a thought, but I haven't heard that it's been implemented yet. By anyone. It's still connect by carrier, then transfer by wifi.)

The issue I'm finding is that it isnt baked into a standard. So still you end up trying to convince your friends to use a certain app. Eg. In Canada RCS on Samsung 9 is in the Android Messages app with Roger's but in the stock Samsung app with Bell. It's crazy, and still not unifying.

Same here. No way I'm risking this bug. And I don't even have sensitive photos. Its the whole principle of poor security and a pretty terrible bug. Unacceptable. Android Messages for me until Samsung fixes it and even then may just stick to Android messages. The web access feature is nice.

Is this clearly just affecting only the stock photos album on S9/S9 plus devices? I have photos in my Google photos app as well.

My question is has T-Mobile or Samsung admitted that it's a bug? If not, it may never be fixed.

I remember reading Samsung knew about it and was working on it. No idea beyond that. I've been using Android messages and I have to admit I like it better anyway.
