I see that Samsung has made Google messages the default on the S22 line. Does anyone know if Samsung is going to start updating Samsung messages on the S20 line to become Google messages so that RCS works across all of their phones seamlessly? Right now Samsung messages RCS only works with Samsung messages. My wife prefers Samsung messages so we have been using that for RCS but I prefer Google but RCS is enough of a feature for me to use Samsung messages for now.

You can just download Google Messages on both devices today, make it the default messaging app of off you go. Turn on the "chat" feature within the app and RCS works across all androids using Google Messages regardless of carrier or phone.

I understand that, but like I said my wife prefers Samsung messages so unless it's a forced move by Samsung she probably won't switch. She likes the look of Samsung messages more. She tried Google messages and hated it.

I have a brand new unlocked S22 Ultra, and I downloaded and installed Samsung Messages on it. It still works fine for me. I'd imagine that Samsung would not keep it available for download on its newest device if it were going to be eliminated soon.

Oddly enough, Samsung messages was pre-installed on my Husband & my unlocked s22 Ultras. I went into default apps & switched Messages to Samsung from Google.

I agree that if it's still available for download, Samsung is not ready to pull the plug on their Messages app yet. That makes me happy as I really like Samsung's app.
:)

I like it as well. My other option is Textra. I'm not a fan of Google Messages.
