Samsung Note 2 car charging advice please

Hi guys I have been using my note 2 sat nav in the car for a while now and it always runs flat after a few hours of use. I was running it off the rear usb in my car stereo but it kept going flat after a few hours so someone said fit a 2.1A usb charger and that should help.

So I have now fitted a dedicated 2.1A usb just for my note cradle/phone holder and my phone is still running flat after a few hours after use. its a real pain getting somewhere and I cant use my phone cuz I need to save the power for the sat nav.

is there not anyway of using the sat nav on my phone and get it to slowly charge as well.

surly there must be a way by now to use my phones Sat Nav and charge it in the car

any help with this would be great if there's a part I need a link would be great (I'm in the UK )

First things first: The USB Port is not the whole story. Are you sure your phone is charging at full 2 Amps? The cable might come into play as well (very long cables will degrade power the longer they are, as well as cheaply-made ones). One way to make sure is to plug in your phone, turn the screen off and let it charge off the car port for about 10 minutes. Does it go up a significant amount, comparable to when you charge it using a wall charger? If not, then you're not getting the 2Amps out of the charging port.

It can also be that your battery just needs replacing. If this is a Note 2 and you're still using the original battery, then I'm surprised it even lasts a few hours. Another thing to remember is that the screen is the main battery drainer, so make sure not to use full brightness and that should help balance the charge VS depletion ratio.

not I'm not sure if it is charging at 2A. its a not a long cable its quite short and not a cheap thin one either. the battery is around 6 months old and one that come with the phone they both last around the same time. it does charge when its switched off in the car but does it charge faster or slower then my indoors charger I don't know I have never timed it but it does charge it yes

Check to see if it charges at least as fast as your wall charger. It may only be drawing the standard 0.5A which is gonna charge very slowly and definitely not enough to be on par with the drain. I'd say that to at least be 'even' you would need a 1.5A charging rate and a 2A to see increase in the battery level while actively using the device.

ok will check.... if it is only drawing the standard 0.5A can anything be done about it?

Mostly just changing the USB Port and/or cable. I use the Samsung Car charger on mine and so far no issues, I can navigate with screen on and still gain some charge afterwards.

I downloaded Galaxy Charging Current app now and plugged into a 2.1a car usb it only reads 200mA in my car but it wont charge when using google maps... plugged into the charger indoors it reads 700mA but it does charge still when using google maps.

So I,m saying you need 700mA to use google maps and to get a charge.
I read that using cheap chargers and leads can make a huge difference so have now bought some new ones..

I have just bought a good quality car charger and a charge only 1m usb lead both good quality so will be able to test the diff between cheap chargers & leads.

what I bought is below with the description will let you know the results when I get them...

Those apps aren't usually accurate, but can give you a good idea of how the charger is doing, and in your case, the car one is definitely not performing as it should... I hope the new ones you get help!

no I never thought they would be that accurate but like you say it will give me a idea on how its doing. it should be a lot higher then it is fingers crossed the new charger and leads help. failing that I have now bought a mobile car battery charger and spare battery as well so if it does run low I have a spare one to use in the car and in the home.

incredible unbelievable difference just with the new lead 3 times as fast charging rate from 200mA to 800mA (see below)
