Samsung Note Pro 12.2: Screen flickering problems

One thing I learned is that buying a refurbished tablet is cheaper and better I think. Because they fix all the problems they had at first when it was new.
I don't think so, refurbished tablets are the used one returned from stores or customers, passed some basic function tests, replaced case if it's damaged. Then they're ready for resale. Some have a bad luck of dead LCD after the 3 months warranry.

I have had this problem for 2 years. I have noticed the lower the battery level is the worst it is. Used to be when it was down around 40 percent the problems would start. Now when it get to 75 percent I start having problem. I do not have the problem with power connected. Im thinking it has to be a battery problem and am looking to see If I can replace the battery and see if that helps

I'd like to know if it helps. Mine is so bad now that it is almost unusable.

today I tried folding up a piece of thick paper and sitting it above the connecter. I then put the back panel on so we'll see.

My problem and solution: friend of mine had the same problem (just that the "flicker" would be an actual black screen and not for a split second). Found out eventually that the magnetic protection cover was triggering the screen shutoff sensors even when folded behind the tablet...therefore it would randomly shutdown the screen. I have been reading it happens with original and not-original Samsung covers...so is just a matter of the magnet sensor being too sensitive. Solution would be not to use the cover anymore or take off the metal bar from within the cover or maybe go and check xda forum if there is some kind of tweak that can be applied in order to reduce the magnetic sensor sensitivity.
Hope it helps! cheers

A Samsung repair center will do 2 things to fix this problem:
1- Re solder the black connector to main board.
2- Solder the white female connector directly to black male connector by cutting the plastic cover at cables' terminal.
This re work I saw from a tablet returned from service.

How do you contact Samsung to get help with this issue?

My black flickering started with the software update to Android 5, so I thought it was a software issue.

Another reason why I thought it was a software issue is because I've never seen it happen on the main launcher menu, and I can't remember seeing it in the browser or even Youtube.

It constantly happens in Hearthstone thought, and I've seen it in Infinite Painter, but not Artflow...

If you are under warranty, Samsung will fix it for free, even out of warranty a few months. Some users are aware of this hardware's defect, even Samsung but they never admit it, consistent to ask for upper management or even corporate levels for fixing their tablets ( out of warranty ).
Don't bother to talk with a lower level CSRs as they don't have a power to authorize out of warranty tablets.
If you want , file a complaint with BBB. I always get favor results with their help.
BBB will help if you have a good reason to file a complaint.
Most BBB Accredited companies will do in your favor to avoid bad rating with BBB.

Beut was right on the money. I checked all the termins on the black hub soldered to the board with a small precision screwdriver with were all solidly in place so I spliced apart the white battery connector housing to remove completely (this is where the Carson Pro LED Magnavisor was a must). I then proceeded to attach and solder each battery connector to it's terminal then solder each one in place. the colder job isn't the prettiest but it works, then cut small pieces of plastic to put in place between the 6 leads, rescrewed the battery down, put the tape back on the connection, fired it up and not one flash or flicker! I'm on 18% battery right now which before would have been going off like the 4th of July. The only thing that perplexes me is that before the fix and beating into recovery, not one flash or flicker but boot back into system and it's a flickerfest. I can only guess recovery runs on only a lead or 2. I will start a post where I can show pictures.

Trust me, battery connectors ( black male, soldered to mainboard, and white female , the one with 6 wires ) are now a mandatory fix for all Samsung Note and Tab Pro tablets returned under RMA regardless flickering screen or not, because sooner or later, the same tablet will return for this problem.

This is the fix I see in Note Pro 905V from Verizon, they use silver conductive glue to fix the loose battery connection.
The battery is quite hard to disconnect due to this glue.

The male connector must be re soldered.

I too have run into some serious problems with my Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2. The screen not only flickers but at one point the message "battery has stopped charging due to overheating" came on the screen.. Once it did that it was all over with. It would register that I had 92% battery and just right in the middle of doing something it just shuts off.It doesnt matter what the battery says it continued to do it. So, I sent it in to Verizon/Samsung in Texas and they sent me a new/new refurbished one. They NEVER divulged the problem. Tablet number 2 did exactly the same thing after only 3 weeks from getting it back from Samsung.Except the difference on #2 was battery and charger get SUPER HOT! You can't even touch them. I thought the battery was going to melt right through the cover. I sent it in again, and once again theyve sent me a new one. I havent even turned this one on and Im not going to. I had recently spoke with a tech rep at Verizon who stated the the Verizon Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 was indeed faulty with battery and charging system problems. Of course now Verizon is denying that was ever said. I wanted to know if youve come up with anything else regarding problems with this particular device. Im only needing to get a few folks together to file class action. Please reply as I am being charged for this tablet that I dont even use, and I could use a helping hand. Thank you.

Very Respectfully,

Anthony Cabral

All Note Pro family like P900, P905, P907, P600, P605, and other Tab Pro like T900 , or other Samsung tablets , they have the same problem of cracked battery connector and loose battery connection but this is an easy fix: re solder the black, male battery connector and tighten the white, female battery connector.
I bought over 10 of the Verizon Note Pros, fixed and sold them via Craigslist, not a single one buyer returns the Note Pro or call back to me to complain it's defective.

Trust me, this is a common problem of Samsung tablet, not particularly to this model
If your tablet is under warranty, just request RMA and send it in to repair.
They will do the same thing as I mentioned above to fix this problem.

I suffered from this screen flicking problem for a long time. Finally I decided to open the back cover and see what I can do. I did the following steps (After I searched for a while) and it did work!!
0. take out pens and sd cards and power off the tablet

1. Carefully open your back cover (I have tab pro 12.2, but I believe note pro is the same), starting from the charging port and use a "flat-blade" screwdriver or something similar

2. Disconnect that cable between battery and motherboard. It took me a while and finally I found a very tiny flat-blade screwdriver to pull it up from the side.

3. long press the power-button

4. reconnect the cable and you can test if the problem is gone. (It's been three weeks for me and it never happened again)

5. put back back cover of course.

This is not a fix, don't mislead others, your battery connector did not make good contact, by disconnect and reconnect you may make a full contact from the female to male connector.
Samsung fix this problem by adding silver conductive glue to the connector

If I just buy a new battery will this replace the solder in question or will that still not fix the issue? I guess what I'm asking is the "bad" solder joint between the Connector and Battery or the Connector and tablet?

This is connector soldered to mainboard that needed to re solder. New battery is useless if the solder joints are cracked

Battery Connector.jpg

This is the connector with 6 wires from battery, also need to fix the loose connection.
Many users are mistaken to think they fix the problem when changing new battery or disconnect and reconnect the battery. Samsung fix this issue by adding a little silver conductive glue to the connector.

Trust me, sooner or later you will see it again. That's why Samsung has to add this glue to fix the loose battery connection. Battery doesn't have this glue is very easy to take off from the mainboard's black male connector.

This is a case of bad contact, too pins on the left make no connection with two red wires
I can see it easily under microscope when the plastic cover was cut open.

Bad Contact.jpg

One wire was taken out so I can see how it make contact with a pin of male connector.
In above picture, two pins sit in the middle of the opening, thus there's no connection with the wires.

By this demonstration, I think others might understand why changing new battery or disconnect and reconnect battery might fix the flickering problem but don't know why.
I take some batteries discarded as dead or defective by others, then bring them to life by a simple fix as I mentioned in previous post: pushing the opening of wires's tip closer. There is no need to take all the wires out, you can work directly on the battery connector by using a thin knife and magnified glass while holding it vertically.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I will wait and see. Since I do not have any warranty and not that good at repairing it in such a small place.
