Samsung offering unlockable Developer Edition Galaxy S III

Although in this particular moment this is of no help to me, I could see this developer phones being offering being helpful in the future since I'll be paying full price for phones to keep my unlimited data. Might as well get a phone that's unlocked while I'm at it.

There is now no reason to pay Verizon full price when you can get a better version from Samsung. But knowing Verizon, they will do their best to hide this fact from customers.

IMHO, I do not think that the average Verizon customer will care if there is an unlocked phone available. Especially for the price difference. The average customer (regardless of carrier) wants a phone the looks good, performs good, and probably now more than ever takes good pictures and video. Just my $.02. :)

I'm wondering how development for the unlocked version and the lock version will be different, if at all?

The average VZW customer does not want to pay $600 for a handset, regardless of looks . . . or features for that matter.

That's what Scottsglock17 said...
the average VZW customer is not interested in an unlocked phone. it's also true that the average cell phone customer will pay 200-250 for "fancy" phone (as they call mine) it's also true that 92.4% of AndroidCentral forum posters are not average cell phone customers. (that goes up to 99.6% are not average when you roll over to XDA.. (most of those folks are not average people - they don't even put milk on their code before they eat it):D

I like tweaking my phones ,But Im not paying 600 dollars for another S3.
Yup samsung and vzw are equally to blame for the locked bootloader and the release of an Dev. phone(with vzw blessing) .This is BS
It seems Samsung has taken a page from Moto's attitude
I will just hold out and hope for some good stuff to happen to the vzw S3 via any devoloper support offers.
Depending on how this unfolds will depend on what I do,or if I opt to buy another phone model (Nexus) .But as of now I'm not really in a hurry or freaking out ha

I'd probably rather just sell this S3 at a later date and buy whatever is the top dog at the time, than sell or return this now and take a hit buying the dev S3. Plus I'd just be rewarding VZ and Samsung for this B.S.. VZ by returning their subsidy and Samsung by paying fu'll price.

I'm planning on picking up the dev phone just because I'm planning on paying full price to keep my unlimited data plan. I just did a live chat with Samsung to see if they had a release date yet. The agent could not give me a release date, but promised it would be "soon".

Re: Samsung offering unlockable Developer Edition Galaxy S3

Thankfully carriers in the UK don't shaft the customers like the American Carriers do.

The manufacturers and Google let them do it. Except Apple which does not allow bloat ware on their phones, extra charge for visual voicemail, Verizon logo slathered on the phone etc.

Has there been any update/word on when this will be available? I'd like Samsung to take my money now but they don't seem to want it.

I googled it and:
Its rumored for Pre orders to be available to start the date of Sept 12.But we all know how those rumors can be .

Now is this going to be sold in Verizon stores or just through Samsung for $600?
