Does anyone know if it works there and do you need a data connection? From a Google search it looks like it's available on public transport for locals. I'm wondering if anyone here has used it seamlessly visiting from the U.S. both on public transport and in stores.

I can't see why not, it's like a debit card after all.
doesn't work for me in Ireland but that because only a few banks/cards are supported here, if yours work at home it should work anywhere

It'll work fine over here as long as your bank card supports use overseas. The only thing you won't be able to use it for is MST payments as we got rid of that years ago but we have NFC terminals absolutely everywhere so you'll have no issues there. And no, data connection isn't required for making payments

Just to piggyback off some comments on your bank supporting overseas transactions, I suggest you swing by your bank first and let them know you'll be overseas so they dont block your card for "fraudulent" charges.
