Samsung pay on gear s3 Canada?

I just got mine set up yesterday, it took a while to set up the card and I ended up just calling CIBC. Once I did I was going in just a few minutes. The guy told me that phoning in was the only way to set up your card properly.

I tried it today at Superstore and the cashier was quite surprised. I used the swipe reader however and had to sign a receipt.

Kind if defeats the purpose of using the watch!

I have a US version which I got recently and it worked flawlessly. I've tried to make a payment at Tim Hortons and the payment didn't go through. I've tried to re-install S pay on the phone gear app which notified of a new version. When I tried to update, nothing happened. The s3 watch refuses to load samsung pay asking that I have to update it to the latest version. I later reset the watch and the gear app on the phone and re-installed without trying to update it. Now its a live again. I've set the gear app for manual updates. It all loads up on the watch, however I need to test again to check whether payments are going through. I read that this is a new issue which came up with the roll out of the new S PAY update. Has anyone else had slimier issues?

I noticed that you have to turn on Install from Unknown Sources on your phone or the update won't install.

Oh ok will give it a try. Thanks! Also is the app on the watch fussy with certain stores like Tim Hortons and Freshco? I tried both places and the payment didn't go through. However the app on the phone worked perfectly on the same terminal on those stores. (Samsung S7)

I've had limited success with mine at Tim Hortons as well. It works inside most times but never in the drive through for some reason .. Works just about everywhere else though. About 50/50 on the tap but near 100% on the swipe

Many thanks for the quick reply. I'm yet to try it with swipe. Is it possible to use swipe instead of tap on card machine which has tap by default? I know you could with a physical card to this, But do you just need to hold the watch on the side of the magnetic swipe reader? Or is there another way to do this? Thanks again, really do appreciate any advice.

I don't have trouble at Tim's and I use it with a Pixel. I have noticed though that Samsung randomly asks you to sign into your Samsung account on the phone. That's why it failed once at Tim's with me.

I tried it but it didn't work :( had to reset the watch. When the install new version of Samsung pay pops up on the phone, I just click "Later" and the installation goes through. Will try playing around with it sometime later. Thanks!

I finally got it to work today. I tried allowing Unknown Sources a few days ago and for some reason it didn't work. Tried it again today and its all updated.

Now my updates Show,
Gear version 1.3.2103
Mobile version 1.3.1703

Many thanks for your help, really do appreciate it.

I have the Canadian version of Gear S3 and the S7E. Samsung pay installed on the S7E but not to my Gear S3. Even the apk listed here won't install to watch. NFC is on the watch.

Oh well, I will just have to wait for the samsung pay version on the CDN version of Gear S3.

Hey guys, I'm a bit late in the game here, but I was wondering if everyone's SP still works?
I ordered a watch from directly from South Korea, and found that it came with the SP app - but after installing an update, I was told that SP is not supported in the country of my sim card.
Is anyone else having the same problem? Or has found a way around it?
Thanks!!

Sounds like you have a S Korea, model and I think they are locked to their region. I have not heard of a work around yet.

So I have the US version of the S3, got the CIBC Timmies card, everything works gloriously. Watch works to pay everytime. If I go to the tap screen its just tap, if I go to the strip reader I have to sign like a credit card but it still taps. I am even a bit of a **** about using it now, when someone says they don't have tap I say "sure you do, your just using it wrong" and use the mst to pay. They usually dance around a little bit all excited sayin "we have tap now". Its funny

I tried getting on the Cineplex promotion SP is offering now but my transactions don't appear. I called SP support and they told me my watch wont work with SP, I told them it is the US one and it works everytime and lots of other peoples do too. they again told me I have to use my phone to pay, my watch doesn't work. I kept trying to tell them that I have made well over 200 transactions with my watch and it is working fine. They kept telling me almost implying that I must be lying because watches don't work in Canada.

I just wanted to say Samsung Pay support has no clue whatsoever how people are using their products or how they should work together.

I have been using Samsung pay on my gear s3 for about a year now. Works every time (mst and NFC)... I think the other person got their method from me ;)

Everything he said is right, you definitely need to buy the watch from the USA at least for the foreseeable future.

Is your Gear S3 Frontier the LTE Version? I am looking at upgrading my old Gear S to the new S3 Frontier but I run it almost exclusively in stand-alone mode. What model should I purchase to have LTE and Pay included? When I look at EBAY, for example, many are locked to AT&T or some other carrier. When I bring it to Canada, will it set up to, say, Virgin Mobile without an issue?

Good question, the LTE model is the Samsung SM-R765 and without LTE it's model # SM-R760. Can someone that bought their S3 from the USA and using it in Canada to pay pls advise if it's the R765 or R760? Thanks!
