My boyfriend and I both have Samsung S4s.
Sometimes when I send him a text, I get an immediate automatic message back from him written in Korean that does not show up on the message thread on his phone.
The same thing occurs when he sends me text messages: he receives an immediate text back from me in Korean that I cannot see on my own message feed on my phone.

The message is always the same characters followed by a question mark.

Is this a virus??

Thanks!

What does the Korean text say? Your Galaxy S4 can automatically translate foreign languages within the Messaging app. just open the conversation and press the menu button, then translate.

Have you recently downloaded any new apps or updated any apps? Does this only happen when you text your boyfriend?

The message is always "浥獳慧攠Ԡ瑯‱㐱㘸㤳㈲㠴⁳畣捥敤敤" .
And it always is sent to me directly after I send him a text, looking as if he wrote the message to me. However, he has not even written a text to me at all. It seems to be some sort of automatic message.
When I pressed menu and translate, it came out as "Yi ru brightness Mo Ԡ jade ‱ 㐱 㘸 㤳 ㈲ 㠴 ⁳ da Wan ke ke " ???

It does only occur in texts with him. Originally, I would only receive them from him, but now we both get them from each other. He will receive those messages from me without my knowledge at all or without me sending him a text message at all.

We did both download MP3 Skull Downloader recently. Could this be the source?

I downloaded the 360 Privacy Anti Virus and it detected fraudulent SMS activity and blocked it! Not sure what the original source was though, but the problem is fixed now!

Thanks for the answers!

Welcome to Android Central! If the fraudulent SMS messages are due to a malicious app that you installed, it might still manage to send out texts (which could cost you money) despite the security app. Your best bet is to identify the malicious app and uninstall it. I agree with Golfdriver97, uninstall that MP3 Skull app. I noticed on the app page on Google Play that there are a few copycats out there--which one did you install? This is the legit one: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...pps/details?id=com.wanclemusic&token=sUhhtzdl

There's a warning on that app description that reads as follows: "WARNING: There is another app in the store called "Mp3 Skull Music Download" with my Icon and my App description. That App is not from me and it's just a copy of mine. They even copied my Dev name "TONY TOUCH".Please don't be fooled. Its not ME." If you installed one of the copycats, I'd say there's a big chance that there was some malicious stuff in there. After uninstalling, keep a close eye on your phone bill and activity, preferably in real time by checking your wireless provider's website or app--look for a lot of unknown texts, especially to foreign countries.

See post #16 in "Please someone Help! ("no service" after flashing)" in the main Note 3 forum. Is there a connection.

No, I don't think so. That issue seemed to be the Recovery Menu being displayed in Chinese, whereas this issue is about actual Korean text messages being sent back the phones.
