Android Central Question

Hi folks! Quick question ... I just noticed that I now have a "Time Zone Updater" app in Settings > Apps. The app can't be uninstalled or disabled so it must be a system app. The version number is 1.0.04.0. Anyone else have this as well?

A couple of weeks ago I received a notification on my Samsung Galaxy S8 about new time zones being available and that the time zones will be updated the next time I restart my phone, which I did. I assume the new app is related to that update?

The time zone updater is a Samsung app and I'm pretty sure it is standard. Basically it automatically changes the time(and date) on your phone to reflect current time for the zone your in. Ie: changing states, countries, daylight savings etc. This is done through cell networks. This function can be turned on/off usually through clock settings.

There was a recent change in time zones (I don't recall where - in Asia, somewhere, maybe?) that someone posted about here. That file may have something to do with that. (If it did, it should have deleted itself after updating the system for the new timezone.)

Thanks for the replies. What version of this app do you guys see on your phones? Mine says 1.0.04.0. This appears to be a system app since it can't be uninstalled or disabled. Thanks!

On my s8 my version is 1.0.00.2

Yikes I wonder why yours is so far behind? Maybe it's region dependent? I'm in Canada.

Did you get a push notification in the previous weeks/months that there's a time zone update and to restart your phone?

PS: I found this earlier thread about time zone updates so I may ask there as well.
