Press release from Samsung on Q2 earnings.

"The company initially expected to sell four Galaxy S6 smartphones for each Galaxy S6 Edge that it sold, and set up its production facilities accordingly. Instead, demand was much likely closer to even for the two devices, the person said.

That led to a glut of unsold Galaxy S6 devices—particularly white-colored devices—and not enough Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones"

Sales have been down across the board. The s6 are selling as bad as the s5's did. G4 sales are below projected numbers also and the m9 are in the dumpster, expect drastic discounts.

Too many phone choices and not enough to differentiate between them all. So what you bought a year ago is still more than good enough in most cases. Especially since most "normal" people (not us) keep their phones for two years how can these manufacturers expect to sell a new phone every year? Inevitable decline in the WOW factor has reached us already. CPU's in these things are more than what's needed causing too much heat and batteries are too small. So we go back a few steps and redesign everything and hope to get some sales before going out of business.

If you look at the number of promotions and rebates the S6 and S6 Edge have had in only about 3 months of existence, that should give us a hint at how well the phone is selling. New phones shouldn't have to be discounted so soon if they are selling well. Oh well, I'm still pretty happy with the S6 and nothing out there right now has me thinking about making a switch anytime soon.

Just speculating here across the board ... but simple logic and some (supposed) common sense SHOULD lead everyone to believe that as smart phones get more more expensive ... and as we all dip into some sort of agreement/plan/contract where upgrades are not really cost effective (relative term there) until after about 18 to 24 months ... that purchases of smartphones is going to dwindle, regardless of brand or carrier. Especially considering that (as stated above) the newer models with newer features really don't have a whole lot of "more" about them than phones that are only a year or two older.

Yes, they are faster ... better cameras ... more robust functionality ... etc. But "we" have to remember that most of the consumers out there don't think about their phones like we do ... or use them to the level we do. We may have what seems like a huge forum here, but "we" are still a very very small part of the consumer market for smartphones.

This is one reason a lot of people prefer the Apple phones ... take the phone out of the box, turn it on, answer a few questions, download a few apps, and go. Customization, or worrying about exactly what features are in the facebook app on an iphone vs the facebook features on an android phone NEVER crosses their minds ... Adding widgets, customizing the look, etc ... MOST people obviously couldn't care less. They just want/need a phone that they can call on, text on, and play with a few of their favorite apps.

To be honest, my GS4 would still be perfectly acceptable to use, at almost 3 years after it originally came out. Only things I'd really be missing are a better camera, and faster hardware. But the phone still works perfectly, and I could have saved a good amount of money by NOT buying a GS6. I only did because I like tech stuff.

I have a very large extended family ... some of them have gone to the iphone 6 ... but most of them are on iphone 5's, and one even has a blackberry phone he got a couple years ago, and refuses to upgrade simply because he can already do everything he needs to do on that phone.

Long story short, if any of the smartphone companies think that simply offering a new model each year or so that is only slightly upgraded w/ faster hardware and a slightly better camera is going to cause people to rush out and trade in their old phone for the new one ... they are mistaken.

Another aspect is ... for a while, the whole smartphone boom was driven by people moving from normal old phones to smartphones ... and then the initial learning curve by smartphone mfg's to quickly make newer versions of smartphones with MUCH more capability (think when Apple added a flash to the camera ... or a front facing camera) ... those type things do make a real difference in phone capability ... But just making the camera 'better' ... or making the phone a little faster/more responsive ... that just isn't a huge selling point to MOST people.

Gs6 deals is a win win for everybody. I paid full price for my gs6 32 gold edge and still love it

What? I love my white S6!
I think Samsung messed up by not at the very least including a sd card slot.

The whole sd card removable battery thing is a dead issue . You guys need to get over that . Case in point th LG g4 has both and there not selling same thing with HTC m9 . Samsung missed some sells not having enough edge phones and over stocking on the white phones . On top of the fact that the Android Market is over saturated with a bunch of cheaper phones

To a point you're correct. But it was the sd card and removable batteries that made the galaxy line stand out. Without that, to allot of people, it made the S6 just like every phone without those features. Why pay a premium when you get a cheaper phone?

To be honest, i think Samsung is using the underestimation as a ruse to cover up actual sales numbers. And to me, they aren't good. And I'm a Samsung fan!

But the LG is a way different phone. Samsung lost loyal customers due to not having these features and that's why their numbers are down. The Android market has always been over saturated. That's what they get for trying to innovate by coping the iPhone 4. Had they not been greedy they would have sold way more phones. Probably broke some records also.

I'm sorry but I don't agree with this statement, people complaining about not having a removable battery and sd card seem to be a lot because they are exactly the same vocal minority that post in this and other forums.

You may think that they are a lot but they are not, I don't think they even account for 1% of potential customers, I was one of those that thought at first that they made a mistake by removing these things but after having the S6 Edge for 1 day I realized that their move was the correct one, maybe they could have left the SD card, but if indeed by having the new memory and sd card modules together was the cause for errors and issues I think they did what they had to do.

To each his own, but with this whole new design they gained way lot more customers that they lost, what I don't really think they should be doing and it seem they already did according to latest rumors, is to removed both things also on the Note series.

Samsung is losing market not because of the Galaxy series but simply because Every Android OEM is losing market to the Chinese bargain phones on the low and mid range, but by millions, and Apple has regained some market share at the high end with the larger screens IP6 and IP6 +.

I love my S6, but to be honest when you compare it to S5 for example I can't see why someone would shell out big $$ to buy an S6 when it's not tons different for the average user. My dads S3 went dead back in May and he decided to get an S5 because it was cheaper. I have not seen a lot of people with the S6. I see tons of S4s though and S5s.

However I see a lot of people with IPhone 6's though. In a way I think IPhone lots of non tech savvy people buy them because they're simple to use and mainstream, while Android has a lot of the "power users". That is just my observation.

My point is if u are gonna copy a design then you should at least improve upon it. Just slapping Android lollipop into a iPhone replica isn't gonna move the masses. And I guess sales are proving that point so far. I don't see things getting any better either since the fizzle is gone with the S6 line. Too bad because I really like mine.

It kills me how people want a MicroSD on the S6. The idea behind doing away with it was for data processing speed. Much like a SSD. If you need more than 128gb in a mobile device..well... You should get a laptop. Upcoming phones have followed the same suit. Some people just whine to whine.

While I am OK without it, I still would have liked to see it left in the design. For storing music locally, the slower speeds are irrelevant.

As someone who was seriously considering buying a S6, I ended up getting a LG G4. It took me a long time to come to my decision, but I can honestly tell you why I made it and where Samsung screwed up (in my opinion).

Samsung straight up copied the Apple iphone with this iteration. There is nothing inherently wrong with this, as apple puts out a good product, but you are going to lose a lot of loyal customers from it. Getting rid of the removable battery and sd card turned off a lot of people. Yes, I read the replies in this thread, and yes, I understand the benefits of having only internal memory. But the problem is Samsung went further. Not only did they copy apple in design, they had to copy apple in their price gouging. That annoyed me the most. They made each successive leap in internal memory $100 more expensive. I'm sorry but I need a lot of internal memory, and to see Samsung copy the features and price gouging of the very rival company they have spent years mocking really leaves a bad taste. My G4 was hundreds of dollars cheaper and I got a free 128GB sd card through T-Mobile. For me to consider spending hundreds more on a phone, it has to be justified and it just simply wasn't. Apple copying didn't stop there either, Samsung made the phone very thin at the expense of battery capacity. People said the new processor and wireless charging would make things so efficient to the point that it wouldn't matter. But battery life did end up to be disappointing. Also, think ahead when in a year the original capacity of the irreplaceable battery degrades- it's going to get even worse. Things I had to consider since I plan on holding on to my phone for a while.

No doubt Samsung still made a quality phone and I was still close to getting one. They set out to destroy the iphones camera and destroy it they did, by miles. But a competitor like LG came out with a camera just as good (in my opinion better, but that is for a diff thread) and a very competitive all-around phone for much cheaper. Luckily they had some good fortune in that HTC's phone was a failure considering that HTC did very well the past two iterations with the M7 and M8. I still envy the front facing speakers of the HTC phones but that camera is horrible.

I have a friend who works for Samsung and he told me that the S5 was considered a dismal failure. A lot of heads rolled for that in the company. I wonder now what they do from here if the S6 sales have not impressed. I'm still rooting for them since they are still Android at heart. I would've considered the Active variant but was disappointed they made it exclusive to just one carrier.

34 percent of battery left and SOT of 5 hrs. Does the G4 match that?

What's wrong with people wanting what they want?
Expandable memory and a replaceable battery... Wasn't that the Samsung appeal to begin with?
I don't feel I should have to pay 900 plus dollars for a phone with more memory when I can just simply add an SD card that I already have laying around.
People are still seeing the same lag issues in the S6 that the 5 and 4 suffered from so excluding the SD card didn't do anything but upset their loyal fans.
