I had the Gear Classic (other version of Frontier) which was extremely good. I've only upgraded to the Samsung watch because its smaller - and I love buying presents for me!

Been thinking of getting a smart watch for awhile now. Do you think the Galaxy Watch would be a good first smart watch? I’m a Samsung user and currently have the Note 9. How does the Galaxy watch compare to something like the Fossil Frontier? I don’t use Samsung pay or any fitness stuff. Is it even worth it for me? I just enjoy having anything that has to do with Technology. I’m actually surprised it took me this long to be ready to make the leap. Also with the different sizes, I’m a male but I’d consider my wrists to be pretty small/narrow. Should I get the smaller one? Or bigger for better specs? Maybe I need to compare at a store? Any thoughts?

I think the Galaxy Watch has increased the fitness features. For me, the Gear S3 offers a comfortable balance between fitness and smartwatch features. You can save some $$ with the S3. I think you would be very satisfied with it. I also see you missing out if you don't use Samsung Pay

I'd go to a store if you can. The bigger watch would be ok if you don't mind chunky. I used to have the classic and was fine for me.
You can get black in the smaller size too so you're not stuck with a chick watch
I love all technology and have had Samsung watches for years. Loved all of them.
Even tried the apple watch but didn't like its limitations. I was heavy into rooting my phones and watches at the time.
But try some on and see how they feel.
They're great for letting you know if a call or /text needs attention - or can wait. Can wake you up /send you reminders /call someone. Play music without your phone to Bluetooth earbuds straight from the watch.
Even answer a text on your wrist! Loads of stuff other than fitness or payment.
I'd say go for it

I was itching to buy the silver 46mm version but hate the black bezel. I don't know how they figured out it was a good idea to offer a black version and a silver version but put a black face on both.

I'll stick to my S3 Classic, which I love by the way. I've hardly worn another watch since I bought the S3. My collection of a dozen other watches are sitting in my watch case collecting dust.

A black face on the silver version? Can you not change the watch face??

I’m coming from an Apple Watch, my only smartwatch experience so far. Still waiting for my Note 9 to get my Galaxy Watch, what are the limitations of Apple Watch as opposed to Galaxy Watch?

By face they mean the bezel, the ring around the face of the watch that is used for navigation
Yes, it makes the face look black. If that's the look I want, might as well buy the black watch but that's not my preference

Besides a few days with a DZ09 a few years ago this will be my first smartwatch too, ordered the 46mm lte version, haven't been wearing a watch for 20 years now so will probably take a little getting used to.
Would have liked a rose gold colour but wanted the bigger battery and lte version so had to compromise a little there.
For a first real smartwatch I thought, f... It.. Just go all out and order the best available as I think I'll take to the whole thing better and not ending up with a 400 quid paperweight

For one thing - you can transfer music directly onto the galaxy watch and listen to it with our without Bluetooth earbuds. A bit tinny without of course. And you don't need your phone to listen at all.
