Samsung, you got me

It is interesting to look at the forums for other phones and still see all of the bashing of Samsung phones because of the lag and Touchwiz. While the S7 and S7 Edge will not appeal to everyone, most of the people bashing them have not tried them and base their dislike on the performance of past Samsung phones. It is a significant issue. I have had many of the past S and Note series phones and performance was always an issue. In fact, I tried a Note 5 the other day and couldn't believe how slow it was compared to the S7. Samsung hurt itself with the poor performance of its past phones, but even people who don't like Samsung should give the S7 or S7 Edge a try. They really are better than anything else out right now (and I have tried about all of them). Touch wiz is a non-issue with the ability to disable the apps you do not want to use and the use of Nova or another launcher. With the speed of these phones and the options they offer over the other phones, they really are the phones to beat right now. No one else is close.

For years I used a Blackberry but they forgot how to make useful products.

Went to the HTC M9. Pre-ordered it. Fast good phone but battery life stunk and had it replaced twice under warranty.

I went into the store to buy an M10 but walked out with a black S7 Edge.

So far, so good. .

I was also a longtime Blackberry user. I used to think that I didn't need all of these apps, but after years of loyalty to Blackberry, decided to try something different. Enter the S7 Edge. Now I wonder how I got by without apps. Haha. No phone is absolutely perfect, and I have little niggles with the S7 Edge at times, but the pros obviously outweigh the cons.

Ditto on the water resistance which another poster mentioned. Definitely an underrated feature until you actually go through a situation where you are so dang glad you have it. Typically it would be splash accidents or a sudden rain shower (witness to the latter myself, and boy was it a relief knowing it was water resistant.) As long as you use common sense and don't go deep sea diving or something crazy like that, it is fine.

Also, Samsung Pay FTW.

Very well said and written. I am a phone junkie and have in no particular or.... 6s+, HTC 10, S7 Edge, Huawei P9 and love all of them!
But the S7 edge is just a great all around phone. TW is even slimmer than before but still needs work if you ask me. I switch phones all the time back and forth but I find myself using the S7 edge more than the others.

So I am considering switching from my 6s and you (OP) are saying it's worth it. One big question, how is the battery life and what can I expect coming from the walled garden of iOS?

Battery life depends on a lot of factors. One of them being where you are located. I get eight and a half hours screen on time on my S7 Edge. However, I also have the Exynos version where the battery from what I've heard lasts longer than the Snapdragon version in America

Battery life was a concern for me. I got great battery life out of the 6S. I'm not a power user, or a heave user/gamer. Texting, surfing, some videos and a few calls make up my day. On a heave day for me, I'd have around 50-60% left when I'd plug in at night. I get the same or better with the S7 Edge.

I don't think you'll miss anything. Some of the apps are better on iOS than Android, but that's changing.

Although I think the S7 is the best phone out there right now. But I don't think touchwiz is the way to go if you really love android.

Yes it's theme able and you can pretty much change everything. Except you can not.

And I'm not saying any other skins are better. I believe in stock android. And every time I use my friends nexus 6p it feels SO different and better in every way. The feel the smoothness and the aesthetics. There's something about it that screams Google to you while using the 6p. I don't get that feeling with my S7. It screams Samsung.

So while everything is almost perfect with this phone. The software isn't. For me at least. And I'll always be looking to switch to a nexus. The 6p was too big for me. I know this year I'll have myself a winner!

I feel the exact opposite. Every time I use stock Android, I find it lacking. It is fast, but that is the only benefit I find from it. The stock apps that Google includes in Android are terrible and I spend way too much find trying to find decent apps to do what Samsung's stock apps do.
