Samsung you're in serious trouble if you think people will pay $1000 for a phone

--They have always been a pro tool. :)--
feels like it to me. my is business use and I need, and want, the bells and whistles it offers.

Its not like I'm a power user. phone, SMS, WhatsApp read Play newsstand and that's about it. P8 lite - flakey fingerprint reader - need to re-enrol every few weeks. now it refuses to connect to my Google account and this looks like a reasonably common issue across the Android platform, searching the forums many posts on the this, but I've not see a fix yet.

Purchase phone June 2017 installed version of Android 7
Android 7.1 release date Oct 2016 (as per Wikapedia)
Security update on purchase Feb 2017

Current status exactly as on purchase - Heawei have had a almost a YEAR to get 7.1 out, monthly security updates - what a joke...

Phones generally last me 3-4 years. Looks like this will last months. When's the iPhone 8 out?
7.1 was the most current version of Android when you purchased that device. The newer update, 8.0, was just released last week.

I don't think it's fair to compare a budget android phone to a flagship phone like the iPhone and expect to get the same results. A flagship android phone today will get a minimum of 2 years of system updates and 3 years of security updates. However google update a lot their core apps and services via the play store. An android flagship phone will last you 3-4 years.
Yes, apps are supported just as long and if you're buying a Nexus or Pixel device, those are fully up to date for 3 years from launch. But iOS is a little weird on this front because so many of their apps are never updated except via firmware updates. That's a mistake that many OEMs are no longer making.

I am considering a note 8 and would not be paying anything close to $1,000. I would be getting $630 off the price. $150 off from bestbuy and them another $480 in bill credits from the verizon trade in promo.

You would wait even less time if sales didn't go thru the roof right away.

You hit it!!!

I think this $960 pricing, which was brought up by the $750 pricing on the S8 is a gamble and they are watching it to see how many suckers are out there. :) I am one of them BTW. :)

0% APR is free money. Don't forget that! Cheers,

I have it all worked out:

1) Will wait for 2 for 1 Note promotion.

2) Secretly run over wife's iPhone.

3) Sustitute wife's phone.

4) Await service of divorce papers.

Huh.. I paid over a grand for the last three galaxy phones... Look at their sales figures and see if people are willing to pay that kind of money.

When I think about it, my Note 5 from AT&T (64gb version since 32gb was the standard at the time) cost around $900. Hasn't really changed THAT much. *shrug*

The 32gb Note 5 was selling for $700 which would be the better comparison base model vs. base model.
The 64gb Note 5 was selling for $800.

Interesting note when looking it up... is that the Note 5 was more expensive than the iPhone back then too... the 64gb iPhone 6 plus @ $649 and the 64gb iPhone 6S Plus @ $749.

It's getting really old with sammobile consistently misconstruing quotes and sources from other sites. Koh Dong-jin stated that the Note 5 sold 11 million units and his guess is that the Note 8 will do better than that. That is not an official statement from Samsung stating what their sales expectations are for investors, etc. He also couched that statement by saying they really want to sell more Galaxy S devices, so they might not outsell the Note 5.

Re: Does the price bother you?

And those are justifiable increases in the price? The S8+ can do most of those things and it's only $400-something at this point.

For some, yes. For others, probably not. Luckily no one has to make their purchase based on someone else's evaluation. We all can decide for ourselves.

I own several gadgets. And I would and already have paid that for the Note 8. And I have an iPhone 7+ plus. I like having the latest tech and I’d happily pay for it.

I agree. I bought my 7 plus outright last year for £819. The note 8 is only about £40 more than my 7 plus cost last year so yes of course I'll buy it. I'll buy something if I think it's worth the asking price. Simple as that.

I read iPhone 8 may sell for a grand too. so it seems these phone companies have successfully suckered all of us into paying 1000 for phones.

No, they got me for 545.00 including taxes, shipping and a 85.00 iPhone 5s trade-in.

I read within the last two days that Samsung has stated it has more orders for the 8 than it did for the Note 7. Returning the 7E that I don't like for the Note 8 will cost me about two dollars a month.

If I were buying one out right, it might give me pause. On the other hand if I had bought the 7E outright, I would be happy to sell it and offset the price of the Note 8.

Those of us that buy the Note don't buy it because it is an iteration of the Galaxy 8 phone, we buy it because it is a different product line with features that we want. I buy it for the Spen. Simple as that.
