Saving pics to phone memory

I don't have an SD card but would like to save pics from texts. When I attempt this it says failed because there is no card. Is there a setting l need to change. Email pics save OK. Maybe a message + thing? Never came across this before on any other device. 20 GB of memory available.

What app are you using for text messages?

Using Verizon service with their message + app. It's the app apparently as the stock messaging app worked fine when I tried it just now. So a work around would be to just open the stock app and do the download from there. No biggie, a small PITA, don't get pictures I want to save that often, easy enough to open the other app. Unless another Verizon user chimes in with the fix
