Say goodbye to headphone jack

You're missing out. Also have fun charging the Bluetooth headphones daily

You need to do some research. I've had a set of LG bluetooth headphones for 3 years now, and they still last me 4-7 days listening 1.5 hours a day. Dozens of co-workers now have them as well.

They also are great when I ride my motorcycle, no cords to get yanked out or pulled around.

I have 4 LG headphones and you're correct--the battery life is just outstanding. Use them for telephone calls only. Good quality for this purpose. Playing music is miserable as there is absolutely no bass even with special switches for same. Best described as "tinny"... and I'm no audiophile.

It's pretty silly IMO to remove it, but I have come to terms with it.

As for the 'carrying around" of the adapter/dongle, why would anyone need to do that? They're like $4 a piece. Buy 3 or 4 and keep them attached to whatever 3.5mm headphone sets you normally use. Then any time you go to grab your headset, it's there. I don't see the big deal ...

It's twofold actually. First I didn't know they were so cheap but second it's the principle. The Pixel (and the Moto Z2 Force I spoke about in my example) are not cheap. Really not. I feel like they're not respecting the people who are ready to pay so much for their phones by saying "look we wanted to save a few bucks so there's no headphone jack, deal with it, it's your problem". That being said they're probably going to give a dongle but Juan Bagnell has a point here (at 2:44)

i agree with all of what you say. It's silly to remove the 3.5mm jack. And it's a cheap move. I don't like it.

Stilll, that said, I am not sure how people constantly lose these adapters, because when I get them, they will always be attached to the headphones themselves. So in that video example, unless you lost your headphones too, you likely wouldn't lose your adapter - if you are smart and keep it attached to the headphones (and why wouldn't anyone?).

Yeah I get what you're saying. If the dongle's included and you have that thing that attaches it to your headphone cord, then it's manageable. It's still a cheap move though.

Plus, I have a hard time with Google's hypocrisy here seeing how they mocked Apple for removing it and now they're doing it too for no good reason. Plus, all the Android people who also mocked Apple for that, how are they going to react?

@dlalonde All true, but for me I have moved past it. Too much energy to worry about it since it appears the industry is moving toward this ridiculous direction ...

For me it's like making phones thinner and thinner, like credit cards. When most the people I know have battery cases or are hanging from a power cord.

Digging this up from the grave...

Do we know for sure that the headphone jack is gone or is this still speculation?

Crap! :D With the same device size and a higher price, stuff like this shouldn't get deleted. It's not yet a deal breaker for me but something I'll have to factor.

Yeah I get what you're saying. For me I only use BT so headphone jacks aren't on my radar usually. I have one on my S8+ and it has never been used haha :-x.

I feel your pain... Not a deal breaker for me either. In fact I'm giving up a few features to switch to Pixel from LG but in the end I think I'll be OK

In your case, faster software updates... sorry... actual software updates will be a huge upgrade. :p

I just returned my PH-1 due to a manufacturing defect in the speaker grille. I'm tempted to give the 2 XL a go for a couple weeks to see how it compares. Essential was surprisingly quick with the September security patch and I expect that trend to continue. With both the 2 XL and PH-1 going without a jack, my decision on which to keep long-term will come down to small details. I'm giving both an equal opportunity and keeping an open mind.

Even the DAC?
LOL... I was going to ask the same thing. :D

Ironically, this is one case where one of my external DAC/amps solves the headphone jack issue for music purposes. It's not as convenient but it seems like everything is a compromise these days. No single phone is a grocery list of pros only. There's always a con... or three. :)

Even the DAC?

I use the DAC mainly on the train so I can still use the V20. Won't be as convenient to answer calls but I don't many calls anyway. I can connect my V20 to the Pixel hotspot.
I also will explore using an external DAC amp though I heard that going through USB C has some compatibility issues.

Are you using the DAC through USB C?

You know I was kidding.. That was one of your main things. Haha. Dual camera is mine. Times have changed us my friend.

No V30 for you? What changed?

I'm in a pixelated mood. I went to the Nexus 6p after I returned my G5 and back to the G5 after discovering the Nexus didn't support all of the Verizon features. I've always wanted a Google phone and Pixel does support the features but I was already entrenched in the V20 when the first Pixels came out.
I still might get a V30 when the price drops and I'm not fully decided on the Pixel but I'm pretty much there.
