Say goodbye to headphone jack

Headphone jack are very simple. Plug it in and it works. We've all loved that 3.5mm headphone jack ever since it was invented. Apple removed it because of money; they will make money from 3rd party manufacturers from licenses, and selling their own product. HTC did it because they wanted to improve sound quality. However, LG was able to improve the quality without sacrificing.

By the way, being exposed to Bluetooth all the time is bad. Who knows what would happen. Did you see the video of everyone calling on their cell phones all at once? Yeah popcorn pops.
That's not why Apple or anyone else removed it.

You're one of the few. Many will be disappointed the 3.5mm universal jack is gone. Just cause some people don't use it mean it should be eliminated.
Wired headphones still work. You know this. It's been covered in multiple threads that you started about the same types of things.

I honestly detest the fact they're getting rid of the headphone jack. For what? Yes, I do use Bluetooth headphones from time to time but I want the option of a headphone jack as well. This after they made fun of apple a year ago. Now here they are doing the same crap. Is this a deal breaker? Well that all depends. I still want this phone but Note 8 has closed the gap now.
Good news, wired headphones still work.

Unless they're giving a dongle like Lenovo did with the Moto Z and the Moto Z2 Force, I'd think about it twice before getting this phone. I have 0 wireless audio equipment and am not willing to dish out more money to get new a dongle or new earphones and a new car stereo with Bluetooth just because Apple wasn't imaginative enough to make their phones waterproof and keep the headphone jack and pretended it was a courageous move (as if it needed to be done) and now everyone's following suit for no other reason than to lower their build costs since there was no real outrage against Apple anyway... sorry this move pisses me off a little...

They are including one and the reasons do include more than just lowering build costs.

It's twofold actually. First I didn't know they were so cheap but second it's the principle. The Pixel (and the Moto Z2 Force I spoke about in my example) are not cheap. Really not. I feel like they're not respecting the people who are ready to pay so much for their phones by saying "look we wanted to save a few bucks so there's no headphone jack, deal with it, it's your problem". That being said they're probably going to give a dongle but Juan Bagnell has a point here (at 2:44)

It's more about saving space inside the device than saving money.

Still entertaining the thought.. I really don't want to upgrade but the last TMobile update broke my phone and it's hard to live with it. This is my most favorite phone to date.
Ouch! Had a friend with that issue on the G6, TMO I think replaced it.

HTCs business position has nothing to do with the headphone jack lol

The funny part is no one has actually removed wired headphone capabilitiy. For better or worse the jack has evolved. The real issue is that we as humans don't always like change and or don't understand the rationale behind change.
My knee jerk reaction was to hate that we are going down that path. That feeling has now past and I've let go. Some people can't or won't let go.

That doesn't make it any better. "We'll just throw the inconvenience at our customers, let them bother with it".
What inconvenience though? Once people stop pret that they're being forced to swi to BT, it sorta seems like not much is changing.

Inconvenience for some. For me it doesn't matter if a phone has a headphone jack or not. I have had my S8+ since release and nothing has ever been plugged into the headphone jack.

It's not like they removed the jack and left anyone without a way to connect headphones.

The dongle is not an inconvenience if you just leave it attached to the headphones and most likely won't get lost if you leave it attached. If you have more than one set of buds or phones you can also buy a extra dongles.

The only real arguable inconvenience is not being able to charge at the same time as listening which is something I never do anyway. There adaptors out there to accommodate that but probably not fast charging.

For some yes but from what it seems, a lot of people are annoyed by that.

Well for people that don't have bluetooth in their cars and/or don't want to have BT earphones, carrying a dongle becomes an inconvenience.

But no matter what that is, they're throwing the problem in their customer's court which, at that price, is unacceptable. And Google were mocking Apple last year about that. Funny how things change when it's convenient for them isn't it?

True but if companies didn't do things because it annoyed a group then things would literally never change. iPhones took it away and there was a huge uproar... I bet you anything that iPhone X will sell just fine even with the headphone jack missing. Simply because people will adjust to the change.

The only way to voice an opinion is to simply not buy it but the headphone jack going away seems to be something we will see more versus less. Only phones like the LG ones with the DAC seem to be striving to keep it.

It's just funny that Google bragged about having a jack last year and reversed course so quickly. Perhaps the irony is that even the LG-made 2 XL won't have a jack, either.

Change is inevitable. Planted firmly between status quo and change will always be a whole big pile of complaints. ;)

Oh of course the iPhone X will sell as with all Apple products.

And I agree that things would never change if they didn't do things that annoyed certain people... but the change has to be necessary. The change from micro USB to USB C for example was necessary. Yes you have to buy new cables but the evolution is going that way. For the headphone jack not only are we not at a point where it's a necessity to remove it, nor was it requested by anyone, but there's no real evolution in the tech. BT is not better than wired by any means. The earphones have to be charged, BT in cars is not standard yet, so you have to pay for BT in your car when you buy the car or change your radio, you have to pay for new earbuds that you have to remember to charge and so on. That or carry a dongle.

It was only a necessity to remove the headphone jack to make THEIR jobs easier. And they get away with it somehow. I'm a Web programmer. If I told one of my clients "Yeah I didn't put a contact page on your website. Just tell people to find your number in the phone book and call you" while charging them the same price as if I would have included a contact page, see if I would get away with it.
