Say Hello to the Pixel and Pixel XL

As long as my 6p gets all the software updates that will be on the pixel then I'll probably just stick with the 6p. I love this device and I just bought it in April.

The SOC and RAM are an upgrade, however everything else is a downgrade from the 6P. Mono speaker, downgrade. Smaller screen size, downgrade. For me those two things are deal breakers. I could deal with a mono speaker but, not a smaller screen size.

Now if these pixel rumors are true I'd expect the price to rival that of the 6P, or N6 (Shamu) which everyone complained about being too expensive. I hope Google gets back into the phablet game next year, otherwise I'll skip the pixel/nexus phone again.
If a smaller screen is a downgrade, would a 6" screen be an upgrade? 7"? 8"?

Say "I prefer bigger screens than 5.5" " or "the screen size is a downgrade based on my personal priorities". But to just say a smaller screen is a downgrade is ridiculous.

So much this.....

I personally hate the name. Makes me think it's cheap and unimaginative. But as long as the phone has good specs, I will consider it, regardless of the name. And I glad the screen is not a 6'' screen. Phablets are silly and unnecessary, imho, which is why I will never own a Note.

FYI a naked note 7 is nearly the same footprint as a nexus 5x with a TPU case on it. They really shoved a lot of screen into a relatively small frame this year.

The Nexus devices were put out for two reasons, for devs to test apps on a device with Google's version of Android, and later to showcase what Google's vision of Android was (this was after it had reached a maturity and didn't necessarily need an OEM skin anymore to look polished).

It didn't force OEMs to do anything, that's what the Google Play Services agreement did. OEMs had to agree to install Google Play Services and their app suite and stick within certain UI boundaries for their devices to have access to the Playstore.

On point.

u can still have top of the line specs and have your phones blow up so as long as they are snappy performers and don't go boom one should be relatively happy.

Totally agree. Sticking to my N6. Can't go to anything smaller. 5.7 would be the minimum.

I too am disappointed with the name Pixel, but I am in the market for a new phone, and I want to join Google Fi and use a phone with a stock android experience. So it looks like I am getting a Pixel XL.

Not overly concerned about the name of any phone, so Pixel/XL will do just fine. Will definitely be checking these out and will hopefully be able to see them in person before buying (since carriers will have them). That was a concern when buying my wife a 5X last year.

I hope the Pixel is not a high priced Nexus like Lexus is to Toyota, etc. Pixel as a name is fine with me. But so is Nexus.

If I like it, the Pixel will be my first Nexus (or would have been, but for the name change). With the tweaks the Pixel gets, that won't change the update cycle or process, will it?

I am a bit concerned about the bottom firing speaker. My iPad mini 2 has the same setup and I have to cup my hand around the speaker to reflect the sound so I can hear it. I do not like that at all.

So those two things are "everything else"? And I guess the 6P was a downgrade from the 6 because it went from 5.96" to 5.7".

I had a Note 2. It had a 5.5" screen. My daughter has it now, and there's no way I'd be dissatisfied with a screen that size -- it's still pretty damned big. As for the mono speaker being a downgrade, meh. As long as I can hear the phone and notifications, I don't really care. If I'm going to use my phone to listen to music, it's not through its crappy little speakers, stereo or mono.

Now you are just making sense. You need to stop. Of course the screen shrinking last generation was nto a downgrade, because, reasons. It's a downgrade this year though. We all didn't know, until now, it MUST be AT LEAST a 6" screen to be premium or worth anything more than a paper weight.
