Say "Ok Google" not showing anymore

Hi all,

Well after a day or so, the "say OK Google" disappeared again. It really seems to be a tutorial-timed thing. Sad though, I really liked the look of it.

Yeah the text just goes after after a period of time, like other people have said its probably meant as an initial introduction to the feature and goes away once you use it a few times. It's disappeared for me as well but the function still works perfectly fine.

EDIT: Though I agree it did look cool when it was there

Hey all, this maybe a double-post but maybe you can help me out. I also seem to have the "empty" mic icon coming back. It also happened on my N10. What does this means?

Functionality seems unaffected.

That has happened to me a few times. Clearing the recent apps, strangely enough, seems to get it to work again.

Thanks for the tip, in my case I rebooted and it came back.

Seriously ... Google ... this is the worst launch ever.

Voicemail alerts requires reboot
Ok Google comes and go
Unlock animation is not fluid (near the end of the growing circle)

And those are only the one I personally experienced. The OS is really good and the overall experience I have with ym N5 overbalances these few counterparts, but I thing that if I would have switch from a N4 instead of GNex, I would want my money back. Test your **** Google, those are all normal usage, nothing fancy. Use your god damn phone for more than 2 days and you'll find all this.

First post here but not a total Android noob. I'm having the same issue with "Ok Google" not working and the hollow microphone on my Nexus 5. The only two major changes I have made are the 4.4.2 update (like some others have said I never got the 4.4.1 prompt) and I installed Nova Launcher. I have since uninstalled Nova, of course I have checked the standard language and input settings (i.e. language set to English (US), hotword on, etc.) and tried rebooting and I can not get Google Search to listen.

So far I havent seen anything to suggest that this is a bug with the 4.4.2 update - anyone else finding this issue suddenly rearing its head again?

I figured out how to get the filled in mic back (at least on mine). Long press the screen, go to settings/voice. Uncheck Hotword Detection and back out of the menu. Now go back in and recheck it. That brought back the filled in mic and my phone responds again to "Ok Google".

Thank you, you steered me in the right direction. I'm using Nova launcher (and assume you are as well), if you go into Nova Settings under "gestures..." it will give a toggle for google hot word detection. Just turn it back on!!!
