Can't seem to figure this out, but every time I get a text the screen will flash on for 2 seconds and then will fade back to black. Is there any way to change this, without use of an app, that it can be set to just notify me by a sound chime/flashing led?

I'm going to say you need to adjust the screen time-out settings? You'll need to set it longer. But keep in mind that it will also stay on longer whenever you are no longer using the device unless you press power to turn off the screen, which is OK.

Is it a text pop up box that you want to disable?

No, I don't think so. The pop up is basically a small box that will show a preview of the msg if I'm using an app?

I just don't want my screen to turn on every time I get a text. I don't see the use of it

While I don't have a g2 :-(. stuck with an iPhone for a little bit. My best advise would be to check into the settings for the message app to see if you can disable the popups. Or it may be in the settings menu.

You need to root and install xposed (and one of g2 modules) to fix the screen turning on if you want to use the stock sms app. Otherwise you can just install some other sms app and disable notifications in the stock on.
