Screen auto rotate VERY slow!

Yeah it is a bit annoying.. one of the things I was really looking forward to when upgrading from the stone age with droid eris. Here's to an improvement coming soon.

Mine will not rotate at all when on the home screens. But, when in an app it will rotate fairly quickly.

It's fairly sure it is something at the OS level. If we bug Google enough about it I'd bet they could fix it

I bet that's true. And I wonder if it got worse with ICS?

I was trying out the Gnex in store and the slow (sometimes never) rotation between portrait & landscape was the #1 most glaring deficiency I saw in this state-of-the-art phone.

The guy next to me had a RAZR (w/ GB I assume) and he showed me how his was also slow to rotate. Maybe not quite as bad as Gnex but still quite slow.

I hope it's fixable. Another feature to copy from the iPhone perhaps? ;)

To me it looks like the delay was intended to be there. Almost everything on this phone is very snappy. Justmy 2 cents.

Mine takes a bit too long if keyboard is up or a drop down list is open. Otherwise, it rotates pretty quickly.

its possible. they have not really released a list of foxes that are comming with it. well at least not a comprehensive list.

This is great news, as I've always wanted a pet fox. Any word on whether they will be of the red or the gray variety??? :p

On topic, the slow rotation was the first (and only, so far) thing that bugged me about this phone. Sure hope it gets fixed with an update.

I find this rather annoying since everything else is so snappy but maybe they'll fix it later on in the next update.

It's slow for me. There's something going on with the shift from portrait to landscape with multitouch, which I bet is connected to the slow rotations we're seeing. The keyboard's lack of autocorrect and suggestions in some circumstances may be wrapped up in all this as well.

The slow rotation speed is pretty annoying and noticeably slower than with my old TBolt. Glad to hear that it's not just my phone. I was worried that the accelerometer on my phone was defective and that I'd have to swap phones. Sounds like something that will be fixed in a software update.

I firmly believe it is an intended delay, not some kind of "lag" for "performance issue". I think it's a delay programmed into it so that it doesn't inadvertently rotate.

I agree that the delay is too long, but it's not an example of a performance issue.

The same conversation happened on the Xoom.
It's an intentional delay.

When the screen rotates, it's a smooth animated rotation.

It does however, take a moment to trigger the rotation.

Smooth animation = good performance.

Come to think of it, I generally had the keyboard up when I was trying to rotate. Could be a linkage there. But still quite annoying for an otherwise pretty snappy phone.

Well, I have a possible issue that is probably not going to be remedied.

About a month ago (before I bought the awesome Diztronic TPU case) I got up early one morning for work and fumbled around and dropped my GNEX on my hardwood floors. Thankfully it didn't break but the back cover and battery flew out.

Ever since then I think my screen rotation has actually been even worse. It often flips upside down when I'm holding it vertically in one had at a slight angle for normal reading. Generally it corrects itself after 2-3 seconds, but it is annoying.

I swear this happened after I dropped the phone, but I can't be 100% positive that is the case. It generally did have a slow auto rotate to begin with, but I don't remember it getting it's bearings just flat out wrong. These are two different issues and is why I don't feel I'm being paranoid.

Is this a possible thing to damage from dropping? Is it the accelerometer that is messed up?

Hello

The problem is "smart rotate feature".
Please disable Smart Rotate feature (on galaxy s4) an here you go!

Go to the top with all the shortcuts. Press and hold the smart stay box to bring up the settings. Disable smart rotate. Fixed.
