To avoid getting generic replies. There is no option to stop it. It's on every phone I've owned... More often, phone systems are using automated messages and chose a number to be directed to the right department while also having minutes of pre-recorded messages to avoid the mass amounts of common question. People spend many minutes in automated systems before speaking to someone while having to key in a response. Why isn't android aware of this and not providing a setting to allow the phone screen to stay on for more than 10 seconds before shutting off the screen. I can't minimize the phone app and key in my response. I don't want to have to tap the phone every 9 seconds for 5 us minutes. I know this isn't technically Android but they, like YouTube, have no contact method that I can find. Anyway to get Android to stop being stupid with the phone app.

Actually, Google is very much aware of this, which is why Pixel phones have the awesome Hold for Me and Direct My Call:

But to take advantage of those features, you need a Pixel phone.

I assume that when you're talking, you're on speakerphone, right? Which phone do you have right now?

By the way, you posted this in the Android Apps forum, which is more intended for discussions about apps in general, rather than how a device functions. I'll move it to the General Help forum, which I think is more appropriate.
