Screen behavior during calls

Okay, I did more testing with my ZAGG HD still on.

For me, the screen behaves properly during calls in daylight or in a well lit room. But in the dark or in low light conditions, the screen doesn't behave properly.

I tested this a few times in a well lit room and the screen was consistently working correctly.

And I tested this in my closet a few times and the screen was consistently NOT working correctly.

So it looks like the proximity sensor has issues handling low light conditions.

Wife/Girlfriend/Significant Other: Honey why are you in the closet making phone calls?

I'm with you Bobby. I don't have a screen protector on mine, & experienced the same issue. Funny thing is I just tried a phone call, & it worked. I think it may be (or have been) a bug.

Do you have your display timeout set to the default value of 1min? I think, when the proximity sensor turns off the screen, it will then time out after 1min and case the phone to lock. Try upping or disabling the screen timeout value and see if that helps.

Same problem here. No screen protector. Screen timeout set to 2 mins. Screen goes black when I put the phone to my ear but does not come back on when I remove it from my ear.

Just tested my proximity sensor. Did not work at all in low light. Screen would not turn off while on a call and and when I removed it from my face, it would not wake.

On a similar issue, while still on the call, I could not wake it too end the call. Every time I tried to wake it, as soon as touched the screen it turned off.

Just did a factory reset and it fixed my issue! Not happy about re-setting everything up. Just glad it worked.

It did not, however, add my missing capacitive menu button lol.

Good to hear! So far mine's behaving properly since I removed the ZAGG HD. If it ever comes back, I'll do a factory reset also.

Is a Factory Reset as easy as it sounds? I'm scared.

It's easy but you're basically starting over from scratch.

On my OG EVO, the screen protector goes over all the sensors and even the camera. Never had an issue with anything.

Just to add to this...When I make a call using Speaker Phone, once I deselect the Speaker my screen goes blank until I turn it back on with the power button.

Ok. So I had the issue of the screen not turning off when placing the phone on my ear and turning back on when removing the phone from my ear. I also had that speaker phone issue I described above. I just went back to Walmart and swapped mine out for a new one and so far I have yet to experience those issues again. :D

Same probs over here (proximity sensor not working in low light and speakerphone issue during calls). After factory reset, Sprint chat, Sprint phone rep, Sprint in-store tech, my new phone arrives tomorrow. Guess this is the only sure fix. Good luck to others with the same issues.

had it happen...wiped off where the sensor was and everything is fine.

I just think the sensor is very sensitive.

I just tried it and whoa! It worked... but only 2 times. Went back to same next 10 tries. Darn.

Mine was doing that. I rebooted and still did the same thing. So I unchecked "Fast Boot" and powered off the phone (no restart). After a few minutes I turned it back on. I called myself from another phone and now it works. I did notice when I was having the problem the proximity sensor red glow stayed on all the time. The first time I turned it off the red glow was still there. Also if I remember correctly my OG EVO used to do the same thing. If on a call, removed the phone from my ear, and then turned off the display by pressing the power button my proximity sensor would start to act wonky. Hopefully this helps you.

+1 I don't have a screen protector and its happening to me. Very annoying!! Definitely a bug one of many on this EVO

I'm have the same issue, but I usually have it when I've received a text or email while on a call. I hope they fix this. Not using a screen protector, so that's not cause.

I have the same issue. Yesterday during a call the phone went off completely. I called HTC they said do a factory reset, if that didn't fix the issue return it to HTC. I went back to BB, the phone worked fine on the counter. I think it's the sensor. I do have the Zagg HD protector on it. Hopefully HTC will fix this issue.

I assume the same sensor is used for the auto brightness..... And that seems to work fine on my phone.... If I hold the hand over it it takes brightness away.. If I move the hand it gets brighter...
