Screen Breakage seems easy to do

My response from HTC.

Good question, Tom! I would be more than happy to clarify this for you.

I'm guessing that since the original Evo has had several hardware revisions, one of them did not use Gorilla glass.
As far as we're aware, the Evo 3D will, indeed, be using Gorilla Glass.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us, Tom.

Someone doesn't seem to understand the nature of glass and making it scratch proof.

Who doesn't understand the nature of glass? If you are referring to me, I work in a glass shop and I tint all the auto glass that comes through here, so i understand glass as much or more than probably anyone on this forum. I say it is not Gorilla Glass unless someone can provide a link to proof.

The Evo3D does not use Gorilla glass. It was rumored to do so because the Evo4G had it. Heres the link to the actual gg website for all of you that are to lazy to look yourselves.

Interesting. A different response from what I've got and what I've seen others receive. I followed up with my initial question and sent them the answer you received as well. Gorilla Glass or not, my screen will have a protector on it...

For all of you stating that the EVO 4G and the EVO 3D use GG, can you provide a link to where you are getting that info from? None of the spec sheets I have read for either of the EVO devices indicate that GG is used. I do recall long threads in the EVO 4G forums about this and there was never any conclusive info provided that HTC used GG nor would HTC confirm the materials used. Until a reliable source can be provided that says they are using GG, then it's all just speculation.

They can't blatantly come out and say it due to licensing agreements. Sometimes you'll find a CSRep who will say it, although they aren't supposed to be advertising it.

He should have gotten an otterbox defender. His screen wouldn't have even came in contact with the ground with that case.

Well, apparently Corning can list products that use GG (as seen in the link provided above), regardless of HTCs inability to give a straight, consistent answer. Interesting that the EVO 4G is on the list but not the EVO 3D.

I never understand the passionate debate about whether or not a phone has Gorilla Glass.

Gorilla Glass is not indestructible, so what difference does it make?

Gorilla glass is scratch resistant as someone said. This says virtually nothing about its impact resistance. Typically glass that is more brittle is also fat more scatch resistant...but again more brittle to impacts. You don't want to shatter your screen...don't stop it or get a fat case

New reply from HTC about Gorilla Glass...
-----------------------------------------
Dear Mike,

Some of our phones have used Gorilla Glass in the screen (such as the original Evo), however, the Evo 3D will have the proprietary formula. By this I mean that it is an exclusive formula used in our glass.

Hahaha! Did you hear that from a Best Buy rep?

They'll tell you anything to get that Black Tie insurance (my ass); they told my friend (and I was with her) that the deductible for Sprint JUST for the Evo 3D: $150. I looked up the Terms & Condit. in front of him and shut him the hell up.

You do also know that Best Buy's doesnt cover the MOST important thing? Theft/Loss.

Lose your phone under Best Buy and you'll be shelling out a whopping 500 for a new phone off-contract.

Sprint told me $200 to replace with insurance. You're saying terms and conditions says different? Could you tell me where to check that out? I've been curious. Thanks! Is it in my contract online or something?

Oh, and I dropped my phone, no case, from the top of my car onto a concrete driveway. Only a minor scratch by the power button. It landed on the camera! No scratches! I almost cried.

Doesn't seem to me that the EVO 3D is on that list, but I could be blind.

The Best buy plan is worth it. Sprint
told me the Evo 3d has a $200 copay. other phones are lower.

Bb does not cover lost or stolen however.

WOW that picture looks amazing, it looks so real, its in 3D. LOL sorry couldnt resist.

Sorry to hear about that happening.

Well my buddy's 3D took a basketball hit and it fell on the floor and broke the screen today.

What is amazing is he spent the money for an Otterbox and it still broke in that.

No Gorilla Glass in these babies!

Either the case cracked and put pressure on it, or it hit a metal bar on the way down (which would inevitably break the screen)
