Screen brightness outdoors

Anyone use their X outside having problems seeing the screen? I've turned the brightness all the way up and its still very difficult. I have the VZW stock screen protector on and i can take that off to see if its causing it, but wanted to check here first before i burn a protector.

My X is naked and I have not had any problems seeing the screen even in direct sunlight.
