So excited to get my pixel xl 2 today. After 1 hours I started to notice a grey band going across the screen. It is now 1/2 inch wide in initial spot and 1/4 inch wide below it. When phone is not active the screen is flickering fast from the top broken line.

Google is expecting a new phone to me.

They really need to pull these XL's and regroup before too much of their reputation is shot.

That sucks. The shipper could have not been so gentle with it. My good buddy works for UPS and tells me all the time how packages aren't handled with care at all really.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was all carriers to be honest.

Completely agreed.
This is obviously the display itself (OLED) being damaged here, even if there's no physical cracks to the glass above. Such a shame.

Hope you get the next one super fast and it's without issues, OP!

That could have been in transit damage so regrouping does not change things beyond control.

Given that there doesn't appear to be any external damage, it is exceedingly unlikely this was used by transit.

Ehhh not true. Many packages can take pretty fall drops. There doesn't always have to be a shatter to be an issue.

We don't know for a fact regardless of opinion. As someone who used to ship 500 packages a day I know we used to end up with piles of hidden damages especially in glass or electronic devices. Boxes would come back to us with no signs of damage but shock from a drop will do that.

I can confirm this. Back in the day, I worked at a large shopping carrier (like a UPS or FedEx) in the main processing center and a lot of, very obvious, computers came through. They were not treated gently. It wasn't done intentionally, but stuff happens and there is just so much coming through that you are working as quick as you can and may not be as gentle as necessary.

(Not trying to make fun of you here), but this sounds like lyrics to an emo song. :D

POLED screens are built to withstand drops and other abuse. This wouldn't have been caused by a drop.

NOT with POLED displays. This is the display type used in the S8 active and Z2 force, and they are designed to be shock proof. Anything that could cause that damage to the screen would have also damaged the glass covering it.

You're welcome to think what you want but have you ever been in the UPS/FedEx warehouses? We aren't talking about a simple table drop that can occur ;).
