Does anyone know if there is a button combo for a screen capture, or if there's an app for it yet?

No and no. The only way to get a screen capture is to connect to your computer and use the SDK.

please explain about the sdk thingy, do I have to be connected to the computer to save a screen shot? I need to be able send a view of the screen via email to a central mail email system for work purposes, is this possible? All of my coworkers have iphones and it is a simple push of a button, attach and send the email voila! does the eris not allow this?

You would think that an app would be available that could do screenshots. Kind of disappointing, considering how agile Android OS is. Just a matter of time though, it should come in an update at some point.

couldn't agree more. iPhone , blackberry ,all are capable of this. iPhone doesnt even need an app. blackberries can just download a free one. really doesn't make sense why Android lacks this very basic feature....

If your Eris is rooted, you can use ShootMe (Screen Grabber). Free in the market. Works real well, saves all images to folder on card.

Sure, we can root, but for beginners and the naive it's risky. And it still doesn't change the sad fact that a such a simple thing as taking a screenshot isn't a default function of Android. Using the SDK means you have to be connected to your computer - so you can't just take a screenshot anytime you want. Having an open market (god bless it) is wonderful, but it also makes room for security compromises too.

I do agree. Coming from windows mobile, I thought it would be an easy process but it isn't. I am stuck on a 1.5 root for other reasons not discussing here, but one developer suggestion was if your not a developer or with a good understanding of Android OS, you don't need to be bothered with root.

wow ,learn something new every day. works really well. thank you! !!
you welcome, glad it worked, it's good little app. ;)

@ CHDTPN, Thanks for the Mac info. I was literally about to start researching how to do this and you saved me the time.
