Screen comes on with SMS notifications

Hello,
Ever since the JB update my phone's screen turns on when I get an SMS. This is particularly annoying because while in my pocket, my leg will press on the screen, either pressing buttons in the emergency dialer or getting me locked out of the phone...
Is there any way to disable this?
I'm perfectly capable of pressing the power button to turn on my screen, I don't need it to waste my battery doing it automatically.

I'm pretty sure that there is no way to disable it. Possibly there may be a way if you root your device, but even then, I'm not sure.

At least you get all your sms notifications. Sometimes my phone won't alert me to new sms messages.

Make sure that you don't have it automatically deleting the messages if you're using the stock messenger. I have an S3, but that was a problem that happened with them.

The messages are there, the phone just sometimes fails to alert me that a messasge has arrived and I find it hours later when checking the messaging app.

That's exactly how mine was and that solved the problem. I would receive the message, but not be alerted of it. Try it.

Hmm, that sucks.
I really dislike this feature.
Maybe someday in the future they will use the phone's proximity sensor to determine if the phone is in your pocket so the screen doesn't come on... That'd be nice.

I solved this problem.
I purchased a Galaxy S4 and the screen doesn't come on for notifications. Battery life is great!
