Screen dead spot

I'm having an issue where my g2's knock on feature has stopped working (anywhere on the screen) and my phone has developed a dead spot across the top of the screen. The dead spot is a straight line, but it's a bit inconsistent (here's a screen shot of it http://imgur.com/UJM0dJB)

It started immediately after removing and then reinserting the SIM card, followed by a reboot (my brother thought it was an SD card slot and wanted to play his music).

Has anyone seen this before or does anyone know of a fix?

No fix it is a known issue with vzw tech support. It's within the one year they'll send you a replacement.

I have the same issue. Like to know what caused it. I'm now looking at different phones. I like the G2 but don't want to get another one and it does it again. If any one has a fix I would appreciate it.

try the steps here: How to fix LG G2 KNOCK ON NOT WORKING issue

Both mine and my wife's G2 had the exact same issue, dead screen area and knock on fail. I didn't find out about this potential fix until after I had sent it in for exchange. Please report back and let us know if it work.

I cannot get anything to happen when I type in the "3845#*980#...(my model number is 980). I'm not sure if the menu is supposed to automatically appear after typing the last #, but nothing happens. And, if I hit the send, I just get a "Welcome to Verizon Wireless we cannot complete your call" recording.

There were other hidden menu instructions (Dial: ##228378 + send (Verizon)), and I do get the menu for that, but I cannot run the AATFull test because nothing happens when I try to press the screen for that option (although I can scroll up and down, it does not allow me to select it even though that option is illuminated). And the option to Update Touch Firmware is nowhere to be found.

Um, help?

Thanks

I'm shocked, but it seemed to have worked. Not sure how long it will stick.

I did the finger paint test in the touch screen section. After drawing lines up and down for roughly a minute (screen filled with green lines except for the dead zone bar roughly an inch below the top of the screen), the color changed from green to white and I no longer had the dead zone. Confirmed fix with another touch screen tester and K9 Mail which has the subject line centered on the dead zone area (was about to ditch K9 Mail for this issue).

I am skeptical that this fix will hold, but it does point to this being some type of software or calibration issue. I cannot find a calibration screen, although I just started trying to fix this issue in earnest 30 minutes ago.

Hope this sticks and that it works for other people.

UPDATE: A few hours later the dead spot reappeared. Tried the same sequence (hidden menu --> HW Device Test --> Touch Test --> Finger Pain), but it did not fix the issue as it appeared to do previously.

Plugged the phone in for an hour, and it was working again. Still working as of this morning.

I thought yesterday that this was some type of software issue (e.g. whatever sequence I did yesterday reset some calibration settings). Now thinking it feels much more like a dodgy connector or other hardware issue.

Either way, I have little confidence the fix will hold. If it were not for this issue, I would love this phone. Been pretty solid for me otherwise.

I had this issue and posted about it months ago. I have gone through 3 Verizon G2s so far. It has always happened following a major overheat. Verizon says it isn't a known issue but promptly replaced my phone's quickly. That's really all you can do. They also replaced my charger just in case that was the issue.

Both my brother and I had a dead spot on our screens, very annoying. We deleted Facebook messenger and now they both work like new. Hope this helps.
