Screen doesn't go off after the time expires

My screen stopped going off after 30 seconds today. No clue why. It goes off with a push of the power button still.

Any ideas how I can get this working again?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you verified that your screen timeout setting is still 30-seconds? Does this still occur after a power cycle?

If that doesn't help, please list all 3rd party apps in use, and any other tweaks you might have done, if any.

Hey Cory,
Not to jump in on jrileyful's problem, but i am having a similar issue, only to the other extreme.
When i am making phone calls, the phone continually times out, I have the time out set at 2 minutes, but after about 10 seconds, it times out the screen, and when i push the wake button, i get the puzzle screen, sometimes the call screen. Either way, i have about 4 seconds to press a selection or it times out; its getting really irrating, when i try to end a call, and i have to wait for the screen to come up.
Phone info
-Rooted
-Root explorer
-ATK (free) on autokill, set to crazy
-Advanced task cleaner pro set to auto kill on screen off, (following apps)

skype mobile
titanium backup
vvm service

Like i said, it only does this while using the phone itself for calls any other time it will wait the full 2 minutes, like i have set up. Is there something on the above list that would be causing it, do i have a parameter set up wrong, or what? It would be much appreciated if you could help set me in the right direction, before my beautiful phone goes sailing in the wrong one LMAO!

I was having a similar issue, only mine was timing out after about 3 seconds. Not good. Fortunately, in my case, a power cycle resolved it.

and when i push the wake button, i get the puzzle screen, sometimes the call screen.

Are you cool with ditching the lock screen all together? If so, try the dialer codes suggested in this thread, or use the NoLock app in the market.

Like I said above, this was happening to me too. I would add that the screen would light up again if I put my finger over the proximity sensors, which made me think they had somehow malfunctioned. After a reboot it hasn't happened again, but I am keeping an eye on it.

I encourage you to get rid of those apps. They do more harm than good. If you really feel like you need to kill tasks (you really don't), stick with the one that Samsung provided with the phone. At least it only lists apps you've installed and not those that Android relies on and tries to restart if killed.

Ha, don't do that!

If having the tasks running, i can still get the same performance, then yeah, i am cool with it. The main reason i downloaded those was because i kept getting told about how too many tasks slows your phone down. My wifes stock fascinate averages about 210-215 mb ram at all times, where mine is averaging about 130-140; but honestly if it wont affect the performance, than yeah, i am perfectly cool with it.
As far as the lock screen, i am going to consider that too, it seems to be more of a pain than anything anyway; i dont keep a lock code on there, and even my 4 year old has figured out how to do fit the piece, so i am not too sure that there is even a point.

Now, when you are talking about a power cycle and a reboot, what are you using. I am just now getting comfortable with adb and root explorer, will i need to get another program to do that work?

Meaning, hold down the button on the right side of your phone, and use it to power down, and power up the device. No extra program needed.

I had been having the screen off on a call issue and a hard reset had fixed it...but its back again. A power cycle didnt fix it...gonna try a battery pull (dont know if it makes a diff or not) and then...a painful hard reset again. Just trying to put this back up there to see if anyone else is having this issue?

I am definately having the same problem with the screen not timing out. It drained my battery last night. This problem started just after the latest software update. And I don't have (no longer have) any App Killers installed.

Check in Settings > Applications > Development that Stay Awake is unchecked (though it shouldn't matter when you're unplugged). If you use Titanium Backup try going into Menu > Preferences and checking the box to Disable WakeLocks. Also, keep the proximity sensor on the phone in mind. It looks like an LED to the left of the speaker at the top of the phone. If anything covers it while on a call (like you have the phone to your ear) it's meant to turn off the display. Some people have inadvertently covered this with a finger while trying to dial extensions and such and not known why the screen just went black.
