Screen goes black when trying to restore from google device backup during note 8 setup.

like in video, i am going through note 8 setup, puts in google account, gets to part where it ask if you wanna restore or setup as new. Sees device i wanna restore from, taps it screen goes black. I'm not even seeing other devices i have on my google account that i know are backed up. Anyone else having this problem? I really don't wanna setup as new.

Didn't use restore myself. I find it's always best to start fresh. Avoids any conflicts from previous devices not playing nice with new software. Just what I do.

I agree, I always start over. For one thing, I have tons of apps from old phones I don't want on a new one, or don't need, and Google has them all there. waiting for me to download them. Maybe an app from a previous phone is incompatible, and the whole process stops?

I went ahead and setup my phone as new but grrr it's not just apps in google backup. Settings are saved too. Those being saved saves so much time as oppossed to what i'm doing now having to setup apps and there settings one by one. Oh, and samsung's stupid smart switch didn't work.
