I'm very new to my andriode phone, so I have a feeling I'm doing something really stupid.
My query is as follows:- If I try and use the smartphone the screen Immediately goes blank and locks on touching the screen to make the call.

I have gone down the path of restoring to factory settings.

john
ps
The call is made but there is no way to terminate the call

Do you have something covering the proximity sensor such as a case or screen protector?

Well done pontiac005!!

I removed the case and all works well.
Were on the phone is the proximity sensor? I was just wondering if I could adapt the case to suit.

Thanks again from a newbi NEXUS 4 user

Top left corner ish. Just wave your hand over it and in a call and you'll locate it.

Last night and today I have the same problem. I do a Google search and this is the first result in the search. I read the solution and I look at the upper left hand corner of my screen and what do I see, a blob of something. I clean it off and back in business.

Thanks guys...

I've also found that turning off the "power button to hang up" helps a lot too
