Screen Icons layering over other screens

This problem started today after the first of two updates from Verizon. AS you can see the screen icons are overlaying on top of each other, and makes it hard to read. Also as you scroll through the different main pages, the previous page icons are still in the background.

Also, at the top of the screen there appears to Ghost Image of the Signal strength and the Time and is not lined up. Any ideas on how to cure this would be a HUGE help.

Another problem that is quite irritating is the Contacts icon at the bottom of the screen does not work, and is why I have the other icon in the top 1/3 of the screen. NONE OF THE ICONS AT THE BOTTOM ARE RESPONDING.

Thanks,
Eric

It could be the wallpaper. Maybe you're using a picture from the gallery with some icons on it, maybe an old screenshot. Try changing it.

You've done both updates and are on 5.0 now, correct? Which launcher are you using? Looks like the default Touchwiz Home. It could be as simple as clearing the cache for your launcher. If just clearing the catch doesn't work try clearing data as well.

Go to Settings - Applications - Application Manager - scroll your screen to the right so that "All" is at the top of the screen. Scroll down to "Touchwiz Home" and tap it. When the app info screen opens for it, scroll down until you see "clear cache" tap that and see if it helps.
If that doesn't do it, repeat the above steps but instead of taping "clear cache" tap the "clear data" button.
Hope that helps.

Oh, and a Launcher is basically the application that produces your home screens. Its the screen(s) you first see when unlocking your phone, the one you posted in your screenshot. On Samsung phones its called Touchwiz, HTC has Sense, Motorola's used to be called Blur. Also there are several launchers you can download from the play store that will dramatically improve your phone. Nova Launcher is a favorite of most folks around here.

I did both the Clear Cache, and Clear Data, and restarted, no I have a bunch of home pages that I started moving things around, and they are still jumbled on top of each other. So bizarre that the apps buttons at the bottom of the home page will not respond to finger touch, or allow you to move them. Quite frustrating.

What is the next step call Verizon and sit on the phone with them for hours to get no results.

Thanks,

Eric

I'm at a complete loss for anything else to tell you. Well, that's not true. I can tell you to go download Nova Launcher. One it finishes installing, hit your home button and it should ask you which app to use. Choose Nova from the list and hit "Always".
As far as setting up your screens, its just like what you did before, drag and drop icons and widgets where you want them.
